I prefer a vernacular approach to defining class in America: rich, middle class, working class, and poor, though some very good arguments have been made for other definitions, for example: capitalist class, middle class, and working class (Metzgar 2005; Zweig 2005, quoted in Russo and Linkon 2005). The kind of cultural differences and societal injuries I describe in this book are true for people within the broader categories of working and middle classes.
