LIBERATION AS THE PROJECT OF FREEDOM IN HOPE While the meaning of liberation includes the historical determination of freedom in this world, it is not limited to what is possible in history. There is a transcendent element in the definition of liberation which affirms that the “realm of freedom is always more than the fragments of a free life which we may accomplish in history.”
