I blinked away the tears and gave a weak smile. “That’ll do. Don’t let that slip until you leave the room, do you understand?” I nodded. He looked into my eyes. “I’ll be glad when you’re gone.”

I looked to my right for Aspen and was in awe for a moment. He was on one knee, taking aim, firing deliberately into the crowd. He must have been very sure of his target to do that.

I realized that the guards who were sent to our houses hadn’t abandoned their posts at all. They were dead and buried, their clothes stolen and standing in front of us.

I saw a guard, and his face was scarred from what I couldn’t guess.
u das
so when you say scarred the assumption is it’s an older wound that is healed so having “what i couldn’t guess” afterward makes negative sense because then you can’t be referring to the recent attack. so now you just randomly have this line that serves no purpose and is eating up at an already exorbitant word count

“I want to start from the bottom. I’m planning on eliminating the Eight label first. There’s a lot of construction we need to do; and I feel like, with a little bit of work, the Eights could be absorbed into the Sevens. After that, it gets tricky. There’s got to be a way to get rid of the stigmas that come along with the numbers, but that’s my goal.”
