He could not tolerate Christians who became easily bored and looked around for entertainment to relieve that sense of boredom. For Tozer, entertainment was simply the Church synchronizing with the world and succumbing to it. It was utter nonsense to him that the Church wanted to bring itself “up to speed” with the world around it. A worldly church was, in Tozer’s thinking, an oxymoron and completely anathema.
The Bible has no compromise whatsoever with the world.
The Bible always sends us out into the world, but never to compromise with the world;
These great movements were not only owned by God but were surely started by God, who found hearts hungry for something only God could provide.
To negotiate with the world is to forfeit the sense of God’s presence.
When a generation comes along dissatisfied with the status quo and has a hunger for God that cannot be quenched by ritual and tradition, most of these do not come out of the religious hierarchy, but come stomping in unceremoniously with such a passion for God that they upset everything they come in contact with and bypass religious protocol, much to the affront of the religious Pharisees and scribes in control at the time.
We are not worshiping God on the throne but have come to the point
of worshiping the shadow of the throne.
The average Christian today is addicted to ext...

Performance has replaced worship. We no longer have worshipers but rather observers and spectators who sit in awe of the performance.
They are as fanatic about entertainment as their fathers were about worship, which explains the difference.
The converted football player wields more influence in churches today than the man who is before God on his knees with a broken heart for his community.
If we do not know where we have been, how in the world are we going to determine where we are going?
That is the only reason for looking back. We do not look back in order to go back. Rather, we look back so that we can make sure we are going forward in the right direction.
It is not by reading the Scriptures in the original languages or in some contemporary version that makes us better Christians. Rather, it is getting on our knees with the Scriptures spread before us, and allowing the Spirit of God to break our hearts. Then, when we have been thoroughly broken before God Almighty, we get up off our knees, go out into the world and proclaim the glorious message of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
see that one of the great
dangers facing God’s people is in this area of religious boredom.
Those who have encountered God and His mighty, awesome presence could never come to the point of boredom. Religion, however, with all of its tiresome dos and don’ts, sets us up for such boredom. Anyone who tries to follow his religion r...

The first cult dominating Christianity today is to imitate what we see outside of the Church.
True Christianity is a mystery, a wonder, something alien and transcendent in this world.
The Christianity of the New Testament is incomprehensible to the world. There is absolutely no way to build a bridge between the world’s standards and the Church’s standards.
The taste of the Church should be infinitely higher and greater than the world’s. What satisfies the Church should in no way satisfy the world. The true Christian has an insatiable appetite for Christ and the things of Christ, while the world has no such appetite.
Christ stands alone, and He does not imitate; neither does He court the world in a lame attempt to win the world.
salvation. It is true that what we feed is what grows. If we feed the carnal nature and its appetite, that will be the overpowering aspect of our life. If we feed the
spiritual, our appetite for the things of God will grow.
Where is that generation that fell on their knees before God with broken hearts for the world around them? Where are those men who gave up everything to reach the world of unsaved men and women?
“Apart from Him, let nothing dazzle you.
All they talked about was Christ. All they thought about, from morning to night, was Christ. Christ was their only reason for living, and they were more than willing to die for Him.
No cheap thrill can ever replace the ecstatic joy of knowing Jesus Christ.
What the world considers successful, God determines to be an abomination. The successful Christian is one who realizes he is but a pilgrim in this world looking for a city whose builder and foundation is God
However, the difference to them was that money represented a means to accomplish something; whereas, today money is the goal.
It should be that great thoughts stimulate us to the highest passion our mind and feelings can stand!
The problem comes in what it takes to give us pleasure. Pleasure in and of itself is not wrong; but what it takes to give us that sense of pleasure can be wrong.
Christ cannot save the one He cannot control. To claim to be saved while ignoring His commandments is to live in utter delusion.
The Holy Spirit will not illuminate an irresponsible soul; or if once, then never again. He requires that we live in accord with our higher privileges.
False teaching—teaching that things are other than they actually are—begins with a wrong concept.
We live in a mathematical and a moral world. God runs His physical world with mathematical exactness. He runs His moral world with moral exactness.
It is so with spiritual truths. When truth has been revealed in the Word of God, our business is to find out what that truth is, and in all of our teaching conform to that truth. We are not to edit or change it, but to let it stand just as it is.
Nonconformity to the truth brings disaster. The enormity of the disaster depends upon the high level or the low level of the facts you have before you.
No one who holds a right concept of God can go far wrong in anything else.
God is what He is, and we had better learn what God is and then conform our teachings to that truth. If we take away any of the attributes of God, we weaken our concept of God.
forgives. So we had better make the study of His Word the business of our lives to find out what He is, and then we must conform our views to His.
If we are wrong about God, we will never know who, what or why we are where we are.
You came from the hand of God, and back to God you must go, for judgment or for blessing.
are. Then believe in Christ and that you can come as near to Him as He says you can, and accept what He says about you as being true.
God is reduced; man is degraded; sin is underestimated; and Christ is disparaged.
Dare to contend without being contentious. Dare to preserve truth without hurting people. Dare to love and to be charitable. Let us put our chin a little higher and our knees a little lower, and let us look a little further unto the throne of God for Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. Let us be courageous but tender; severe but kind. And let us pray in the Holy Spirit and keep ourselves in the love of God, building up ourselves in the most holy faith, and win all those we can till the day of the glory and the song.
Moral lethargy is to live and have habits and commit acts that are deeply rooted and hateful to God, without knowing it; these acts are dangerous to the soul. It is to live a life that is self-destructive and harmful to others and yet not be aware of it.
believe that is one thing wrong with us now; we sleep on in dangerous sin.
