It was like something heavy and poisonous had been drained out of the air. Like the town had been carrying a weight for its whole life and had finally shrugged free of it.
She hadn’t come back entirely. But she remembered her own name now. And, more than that, she remembered Abby and Hope. She smiled at them. She kissed them. Sometimes she would hum lullabies as she stroked their hair. And she seemed to become a sliver stronger and a sliver more herself with each day.
