“How dare you,” he seethed. I flinched. Lightning flashed in his eyes, and he growled, “You scared of me?”
“I would never lay a hand on you with the intent to cause you harm,” he whispered, his voice rough. My throat tightened, and my eyes stung. “That fucker put a leash on you, didn’t he?”
“You’re scared of me? You have no idea how much you scared me when I answered your call,”
“You told me that you wanted this,” he stated, his voice getting angrier. “I—”
“You needed me, and I came, baby. I’ll always come. Don’t give a fuck who I gotta go through. You call, I come.”
“Mason, I—” “You said you wanted this, Harmony,”
“Gonna have to clue you in, seeing that fucker still has his claws in you so deep, you don’t know what’s standing right in front of you. Me. Let me erase that doubt you’ve got swirling in your head, doubt that fucker put there. You. Are. Mine. You’ve been mine from the moment I saw you in that damn hallway. Gave you tim...

“Pains me, darlin’, you thinking I would ever hurt you. Thinkin’ I was anything like that monster who stopped you from singing,”
“I don’t want to be controlled,” I whispered.
“You’re free with me. You just gotta trust me,”
“My sweet girl called me, something in her voice told me something was wrong, and I came. Didn’t think anything o...

“I’m a cowboy, and we protect our own. You are mine. Therefore, I protect you. Simple as that. Don’t give a fuck who I’m protecting you from; if they hurt you, they deal with me. When I said you get all of me, you get all of me, including the cowboy. It’s who I am, Harm. Down to the bone,”
“I’m poison to cowboys, Mason.” He shook his head again, his throat bobbing. “How can you be poison when you’re my cure?” he asked.
“I’m sorry if you felt controlled,” I whispered to her once I broke the kiss. “That wasn’t my intention. I just knew something was wrong, and I ran in there seeing red.”
“How did you know something was wrong?” “Your voice, baby,”
“Few things to note, darlin’. I’m a man.” “I know,”
“There’s gonna be times when I’m a dick, and I want you call me out on it. You did it here, but you also assumed I was the type of spineless man who laid their hands on women.”
“Forgiven, baby. Don’t think about it anymore. It’s over. Done. You don’t wanna be controlled, and I don’t want to control you.”
“I’m sorry for going in there and pulling you from your job. You enjoy it, you’re good at it, and I disrupted...

“I forgive you.” “Get used to saying those words. This isn’t the last time I’ll piss you off. That’s the cowboy in me. Cowboys piss off women...

“Haven’t been to a monthly meeting in a few years, so I’m unaware if they adopted a slogan or not.”
As soon as the words were out, I watched my little song’s face break out into a brilliant, blinding smile as she tossed her head back as a soft, raspy, throaty laugh came from her. I watched in awe, pondering what type of bastard would hurt a woman like this with a laugh like that. Add in her smile, her beauty, her curves, and her sass…I was still coming up blank.
“Mase, Regina is from the movie Mean Girls,” she deadpanned. I ignored the way my chest ached at the sound of my nickname on her lips.
distance between us, cupping the side of her face. “As much as I love standing here in the sunlight, your beauty taking my breath away as you tell me about some stupid chick flick, you need to tell me what you want to do.”
“I want to go with you.” Heat surged through me as that primal need formed in my chest. “Then let’s go.”
“What?” I barked. “You’re in a mood,” she noted. “I’ve never seen you like this.” That’s because the woman I’m obsessed with has something dark in her past, thinks she’s poison to a man like me, and I know nothing about the fucker who tried to break her.
If she was broken, she wouldn’t have snapped at me the way she did, with a fire in her blue eyes that made me so fucking proud.
“In all the years I’ve worked for you, I have never seen any real emotion from you. That handsome smile you flash to the crowd is fake, the ‘asshole’ act doesn’t match the kindness in your eyes, and when you aren’t smiling or pretending to be an ass, you look lost.”
I can’t wait to see you ride! Billie, Cabe, and I are having a watch party at their place! The ache in my chest intensified. She watched me. My girl watched me.
“The King of the Underworld isn’t supposed to be hot,” I whispered, heat rushing to my cheeks as I turned to the next page of A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair. Hades was playing cards with Persephone in his club, and I was falling in love with the devil.
“You are a beautiful, intelligent, young woman. A person having darkness and pain in their past doesn’t make them unworthy of happiness. I’ve told you this before, Harmony, you are not unworthy of anything. You deserve love and happiness just like anyone else.”
As for Dean Connors, he was the biggest baseball star in the nation. Just last week, he reappeared after five years, playing for the Yankees. He came back and the world accepted him. I came back, and I was still struggling to accept the world.
“Fucking hell,” Mason muttered. “What?” “What the fuck are you doing to make your voice sound like that?”
“Eddie!” he yelled, “I’m not riding tomorrow!” I sat up, the water sloshing around and spilling over the tub. “Why aren’t you riding?”
“Because I have a gorgeous woman on the phone telling me she’s in the bath reading a book.”
“What’s wrong with that?” His voice lowered. “That’s something I want to see ...

My breath caught, and my stomach swarmed with butterflies. My woman? My blush resumed taking over my skin, spreading as my heart pounded in my chest. My body felt like it was coming to life after floating in an abyss for ages.
“Harmony?”
“Yes?” I whispered. “You take bubble baths all the time?” he questioned, his vo...

“Been over this, darlin’. Yes, mine,” he damn near growled.
“What in the hell are you doing to me?” “Mason, I…You need to know something,”
“Fucking hell,” the cowboy growled through the phone. “You touchin’ yourself?” I cupped my breast fully. Oh. That felt good. Too good. I let out a breathy, quiet moan. “That’s it, baby,” he whispered, his voice rougher and deeper than before. My core spasmed, and I felt a different kind of wetness between my thighs.
“That’s alright,” he said softly, his voice void of judgment. My soul whimpered at his words, his acceptance. “Y-you turn me on, Mase,”
“Tell me what you’re doing, baby,” he demanded gently. My fingers pinched a peak at his words. “I’m touching my nipples,”
“Close your eyes and do exactly as I tell you.” “But—” “Are you going to be my good girl or not?” he clipped. My good girl.
My body was humming with need. Hades made me blush, but Mason Langston, he sent sparks through my body.
“You spread for your cowboy, Harmony?” he asked, his voice sending goosebumps across my body. “Yes,” I rasped. “You still playing with your little nipples?” “Yes,”
