And that was the thing threatening to send me into a mental crisis. I didn’t want to be well-fucked and well-protected and well-fed coming off this mountain. I didn’t want a shred of my perception of this man changed. I didn’t want the blinders that came with full acceptance of my situation, because I… couldn’t afford to be tricked by it.
“You’re surrounded by luxury and peace, with an unlimited bank account at your disposal, and have a man willing lick any and all parts of your body at your discretion. A lot of people would kill to be ‘fucked over’ this way.”
That was one thing I could appreciate; the man was clean on his own, without waiting for a housekeeper to come behind him.
And… there he was. Just standing there. Grinning at me. An uneasy feeling spread through me, driven purely by the look of wickedness he wore, and I was stuck where I stood, not knowing what was happening or what to do. I didn’t see the snowball until it was already coming at my face.
Without thinking about it, I reached across the console, putting a hand on his leg. It wasn’t much, but… it was something. One of his hands loosened on the steering wheel and, a moment later, covered mine.
“Consider it a midday boost.” I pushed her legs open, granting myself access between them. Her lack of argument spurred me on and I pulled her to the end of the chair. Once there, I buried my face against the seat of her panties for a deep inhale of her pussy, which was rapidly becoming one of my favorite smells.
“Anybody can have sex.” “Yes, but has anybody but me been in all three holes in your body just this morning?” He smirked. “Do you have to be so crude?” “Only when you’re pretending you’re not mine through and through.” He chuckled, then gestured at my car. “Grab your stuff. Let’s go.”
hid the shit well, made sure to cover his tracks. But… the way he claims the sale happened, why he claims it happened… it’s not adding up. He was moving money into private accounts, shuffling investments, a bunch of shady shit to cover up the fact that the store was never really in distress like that. He didn’t have to sell.”
A key fob. A very expensive-looking key fob, attached to a buttery soft leather strap monogrammed with a familiar constellation on one side and Mrs. Sterling on the other. Immediate fucking eye roll.
Knowing your penchant for independence, I thought you’d be comfortable with your own transportation, rather than needing to rely on someone. Your Mercedes is being serviced and should be ready within a week or two. Feel free to go back to it once the repairs are done, but in the meantime, please enjoy this gift. There is no debt, and it is solely in your name. -Orion.
I frowned. “How the hell did you see the video footage?” “Soren.” My eyes narrowed. “Soren showed you our cameras?” “Yes,” he answered, turning to face me. “Because he understands that it’s a big fucking deal and that there’s zero room to let blatant disrespect ride. He understands that you are precious, even if you’re too dense to get it yourself.”
“Soren said you were scared. And my wife doesn’t have to be scared of anybody.”
“What did I tell you?” he asked, as all the emotions I’d suppressed from the day hit me at once—the frustration of the car issues, the fear of what EJ might do, the confusion and anger from the situation with my father. I sucked in a breath as I accepted him embrace and gave up on trying to hold back my tears. “You were just a call away.”
And it shouldn’t have been to William, either. It had been well known among the friends that he wasn’t faithful, so expecting fidelity from his wife was wild.
The covers on my bed were half on her and half off, showcasing soft-looking pajamas that clung to her curves, sexy without trying to be.
The other things, though, the real things… I was as disgusted by those as I had been about my willingness—eagerness—to welcome Orion’s dick at any time. Actually… maybe more disgusted. I looked forward to sharing breakfasts with him in the morning, even got up early enough to join him in the gym sometimes. Sickening. His occasional, random text messages or flower deliveries at Nectar or tiny satin-wrapped boxes waiting on my pillow at home gave me butterflies. Shameful. And worst of all were these dinners he insisted I accompany him for; ultra-upscale places I had to get all dressed up for to

“I’m a little too comfortable,” I admitted, pulling my hand from his. “I don’t like it.” “Too comfortable with…?” I rolled my eyes. “You.” “Me?!” he whispered, a big grin spreading across his face in such a way that made it hard not to smile back. Impossible, even. “God you make me sick,” I muttered, shaking my head as I turned away from him to look at literally anything else.
“Six weeks ago you were lamenting having to submit to a biweekly poking, and now you’re taking that dick so often you can’t even keep up? Bitch who do you think you’re fooling?”
I don’t think he would offer his investment lightly. He has to really believe in it. In… you.”
But he was certainly all-in as my husband, as far as I could tell. The way he looked at me made me blush, the way he protected me made me feel invincible, and the words he sometimes spoke over me seemed deeply rooted in a level of respect I appreciated more than I could articulate. And the way he touched me… Chills.
The appeal of a partner was in having my emotional and physical needs met;
When I clicked onto the last picture, my eyes went wide. There were three men in most of the pictures, Orion’s father, my father, and a third man who was usually not facing the camera. In this one though, he was looking right at it. Looking just like my little brother. And I didn’t have to wonder who he was. After the past week, his identity held zero mystery to me. I was looking at Stanford Reese.
I settled on the chaise in my room with my kindle and a glass of wine, intent on finding some peace after a stressful day.
“Come on, Ri, think about it. You blew into her life like a damn typhoon, wrecking everything she understood about… hell, everything. You used your resources to needle your way into a position that mostly benefitted you and you still haven’t told her the full truth about why. Only the most hurtful possible angle. From her point of view, you stole her mother’s legacy, forced her to marry you to get it back, and now she’s supposed to get pregnant, making herself even more vulnerable. To you, of all people. You should probably count your lucky stars if delaying the possibility of having your kid

Probably why this current issue with Nalani felt more than a little triggering for me. It reminded me of a dynamic I thought I’d left far behind me.
A decision I was glad I had made when finding a wife and someone suitable to bear my children became less of a desire and more of a necessity.
Henry’s usual blasé expression hardened as he looked me in the eyes, giving a quick glance to where Jess had already moved to take a seat. “You sure about this?” he asked. “I’m positive.” He let out a grunt and a quick nod, saying nothing else before he moved to gather Nalani for me. “Why is everybody so uptight today?” Jess asked. “It’s not like this is the first time I’ve come to dinner.” I didn’t respond to that.
“It would be three stories against one,” Nalani immediately countered. “Or really just mine and yours against hers, ’cause you didn’t see shit, did you Henry?” We both looked to where Henry was standing in the doorway, stoic. He shook his head. “Damn, you too?!” I asked, then realized I’d had my eyes off
I couldn’t say he’d pulled me out of character, but he’d certainly gotten me mad enough to drop any semblance of restraint. Was violence my default nature? Absolutely not. I just never wanted to have to make the same point twice, and I needed both of them to understand me. I was confident that they had.
“You did. But you snatched the fishing rod out his hand too, beat him with it.” She laughed. “I bet you he don’t go fishing like that again.” I smirked. “So… you feel me then.”
“I don’t give enough fucks to lie to you,” I said, not bothering to turn around. “As always, I’ve told you what falls into the realm of your business. Believe whatever the hell you want.”
I asked, stepping back to where he was hanging out of the door. “Is all of this because she hurt you? If it is… I understand you being angry with her, but… what did I do to deserve being treated like this?” “You look like her,” he spat. “Every time I see your face, she’s just… right there. And I have to remember the betrayal she wouldn’t admit until I forced her to.”
“Your granddaddy tried to play one of those games with me one good time, thought making me jealous would tighten up my attitude. I put an extra hole in both of their asses and would do it again too.” “Calli… you’re serious?” I asked her. “As a stroke.” She winked at me. “Why you think your granddaddy had that limp? I gave him that,” she said proudly. “And it’s not to say I didn’t need to tighten my attitude up. I was a hellion, and he wasn’t wrong for thinking it. But there’s a way to go about things and that wasn’t the way. You get what I’m saying to you?”
“Pride is gonna cause you to lose the very thing you thought was important, baby,”
“Just the flowers for now,” I interrupted, putting my hand up. “I don’t disagree with you, but… I need a soft opening here. The situation is delicate.”
“Not at all, you should be admired,” he answered. “I’d just like everybody to know who you belong to while they’re looking.”
I scoffed. “Well, our contract—” “Fuck the contract,” he growled, moving in closer to me, looking me in the face. When I backed up, into the wall, he moved in again, essentially trapping me there as he met my gaze. “I’m telling you… beyond what’s on the paper, that I want you. I want to know you, and… have you, Nalani. I…” He pushed out a sigh, looking away for a moment like he was choosing his words. “I want this to be… real. Tell me if that’s something we can work toward. Something we can do?” I… didn’t even think about it really. Bafflingly. The “yes” was off my lips in a damn near

The filthy affirmations in my ears as he fucked me until his words were replaced with static.
“Your daddy’s bitch,” EJ answered, and for a moment I was confused. My father had been gone for years. But he had a widow. My eyes narrowed, and I sat forward in my chair. “Are you telling me Breanna is working with William?” I asked. “For what, and for how long?” “I don’t know.” He shrugged, as much as he could. “Just looks like gold-digger shit to me. William has been fucking her for like a month—maybe two?”
“No.” Shi chuckled. “I think she’s on the straight and narrow again. Getting snatched across—” “Shi.” “Okay my bad. But. I could’ve told you that shit was going to happen. Nothing about Nalani gives play in my face vibes.”
“You get well paid for it,” I reminded her. “I need you to book a trip, just me and my wife. She likes the beach, so… somewhere on a beach. Very private. As luxurious as humanly possible. No budget.” Shiloh grinned. “I love every single word that just came out of your mouth. When am I booking this for?” “Get ahold of her calendar, work around anything important she has going on.”
