It's a Date (Again)

The easiest person to lie to is yourself because you don’t question your own thoughts. You accept them as facts, even when they’re not. They’re just reflections, like looking in a mirror. We see ourselves, but we don’t see how others see us. We get a distorted version.

They’re engaged in conversations, staring intently at one another, laughing, and eating, like nothing else around them matters. I think that’s what love is supposed to look like. Your person completely in focus while the world melts around you.

I smile at the girl staring back at me because I know who she is now. She’s the reflection of the life I’ve lived, the people I’ve loved, and the memories I’ve carried with me. She’s my mother and my father. She’s my friends and my foes. She’s my failures and my successes. I may not remember everything about her, but I don’t need to in order to know who she is.
