You Learn by Living: Eleven Keys for a More Fulfilling Life

When you stop learning you stop living in any vital and meaningful sense.

Education provides the necessary tools, equipment by which we learn how to learn. The

every child’s why should be answered with care—and with respect. If you do not know the

encouraging thing is that every time you meet a situation, though you may think at the time it is an impossibility and you go through the tortures of the damned, once you have met it and lived through it you find that forever after you are freer than you ever were before. If you can live through that you can live through anything. You gain strength, courage, and confidence

You must do the thing you think you cannot do.

Remember always that you have not only the right to be an individual; you have an obligation to be one. You cannot make any useful contribution in life unless you do this.

Year by year there are fewer newspapers; it becomes more and more difficult to hear two sides of the news.

Given half a chance, the young, I think, can be trusted not only to accept political responsibility but to welcome it, for with each effort to shoulder a burden comes strength, and with strength comes confidence. With confidence enough, a nation is invincible. No man is defeated without until he has first been defeated within.
