The Gospel of Thomas, which of all such Gospel pastiches beyond the New Testament most resembles the four ‘mainstream’ Gospels in its content and its likely dating to the late first century, describes a confrontation between Mary Magdalene and the Apostle Peter, in which Jesus intervenes on her behalf to reproach Peter.
