Nick Belhomme writes dark science-fiction horror about infection, identity, and the fragile boundary between human and other. His Invasion Earth trilogy grew from a lifelong fascination with the strange, the unsettling, and the possibility that first contact might arrive in a form no one expects.

As a teenager, Nick spent countless hours with the original Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark games, while films such as E.T., Labyrinth, and The Goonies fed a love of stories in which ordinary people stumble into worlds that are much bigger—and stranger—than they imagined.

As a teenager, Nick spent countless hours with the original Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark games, while films such as E.T., Labyrinth, and The Goonies fed a love of stories in which ordinary people stumble into worlds that are much bigger—and stranger—than they imagined.

Later, that fascination took a darker turn. Stories such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Puppet Masters stayed with him, but they also left him with a question he could never quite shake: if an alien organism wanted to spread across Earth, why would it infect only humans?
Animals, he thought, would make far better vectors. They move unnoticed through forests, gardens, sewers, fields, and homes. A person acting strangely draws attention. A bird, a rat, a deer, or a dog usually doesn't. If something truly alien arrived here, humanity might not even be the first species to know about it.

There was another part of those stories that fascinated him just as much: they tended to end when the invasion was defeated—or when it had won. But what happened the next morning? What became of the survivors, the landscape, the governments and communities left behind? Could a world touched by something alien ever simply return to normal?

Those questions eventually became the foundations of Invasion Earth.
Away from fiction, Nick has spent more than twenty years working in software architecture. Much of that career has involved thinking about complex systems, unexpected behaviour, cascading failures, and what happens when one small change spreads far beyond its intended boundaries. Perhaps inevitably, some of that way of thinking found its way into his fiction too.

Nick lives in Belgium with his wife, Chanie, and their dog, Pixel—who, despite the author's suspicions about animals as perfect alien vectors, remains under loving care.
