Michela and 2 other people liked Phoenix Fawkes's status update
Phoenix Fawkes
Phoenix Fawkes is on page 56 of 190 of Die Vegetarierin: the last paragraph from the first page shows brilliantly how this book isn‘t about being a vegetarian / not eating meat due to the animals but about patriarchy and how not eating animals is her gaining autonomy over her body for the first time in the only way she knows how while feeling & recognizing the violence she experienced and is part of. I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THIS BOOK

Fyodor Dostoevsky
“Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart. The really great men must, I think, have great sadness on earth.”
Fyodor Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment

Stephen King
“The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.”
Stephen King, The Gunslinger

J.R.R. Tolkien
“I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Taylor Jenkins Reid
“Passion is...it's fire. And fire is great, man. But we're made of water. Water is how we keep living. Water is what we need to survive.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six

Hanya Yanagihara
“You won’t understand what I mean now, but someday you will: the only trick of friendship, I think, is to find people who are better than you are—not smarter, not cooler, but kinder, and more generous, and more forgiving—and then to appreciate them for what they can teach you, and to try to listen to them when they tell you something about yourself, no matter how bad—or good—it might be, and to trust them, which is the hardest thing of all. But the best, as well.”
Hanya Yanagihara, A Little Life
