It’s pretty sad. Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Ubervilles and Jude the Obscure are both agonizingly sad. Jude is probably the saddest novel I’ve ever read.
That is why I don't plan to ever read Jude the Obscure. Tess of the D'Urbervilles was sad enough. The Paris Assignment was also very depressing. I just finished it so it is on my mind. Thanks for the warnings.
