Not Quite Human (Not Quite, #1)
by
"Perfect example of what I'm talking about for this list. The main character doesnt even HAVE a gender, and her building harem is 'random'. Not a wilting female and her alpha rescuers. "

Bad Alpha (Sweetverse, #6)

"I added this to my PanPolyPolly list and shelf, cause it's amazing.

The female character is an/THE Alpha, and she isn't required to Change in order to fit her partners. In fact, it's more about accEpting herself, which inevitably DOES cause a Few things about her to change, but all in all, she's the same Alpha at the end as she was at the beginning - her character development is huge, but it isn't a personality transplant, or a 'taming the wild woman into a proper housewife' or 'I don't have to pretend to be tough now that I've found Luuubb' or any of that garbage. Other reasons why I love it: The omega is male. None of the characters really do what you 'expect them to' as far as literary gender-role expectations go. There is "racial diversity" without being demeaning, which is Exceedingly refreshing. He's not 'crazy' or 'bad' or a 'criminal' or a 'thug', there is no 'accent'... There are no stereotypes at ALL except occasional reminders of his hue. The story isn't completely centered around the female. Yes, she's the main'est' of the characters, but... it isn't all about everyone being in love with the prized female and no one else. In fact, one of the negative reviews said they DISlike the book because one of the guys was more interested in the other guy than in her (which isn't even 100% accurate), and it made me laugh. Basially, it is a proper polycule, not a 'traditional' reverse harem. Every individual is important for the balance that they bring to the whole. All in all, 10/10 hearted it. I only had ONE tinsey plot-plausibility issue about the resolution, but that's a spoiler, And honestly, Moon gave me SO MUCH that other authors rarely give that it's a total non-issue. Bad Alpha is my favorite of Moon's, and has earned a spot in my favorites list." See Review |
