Black Hole
by
"The first of 3 books I added before owning due to delayed release dates, and I'm putting this one at the top of the list... lame, I know. But this is Charles motherfucking Burns + Black motherfucking Hole + an original art facsimile format. The greatest comic artist of all time, and the greatest work of sequential art in the medium's short history (I'm not going to add 'in my opinion', because it would be completely redundant - Goodreads is 100% 'assholes & opinions'. I'm looking forward to this book more than any this century. That's despite the fact that Fantagraphics has a history of producing some of the highest-quality hardcovers available - i.e. The Blighted Eye - as well as occasionally making bad printing decisions that make it past their non-existent quality control and into circulation: i.e. the recent 'Comics As Art', an otherwise brilliant tome devoted to the epic history of The Comics Journal & Fantagraphics itself, which I bought through Amazon, and went through three (or was it four?) exchanged copies before finally giving up & taking the refund. All 3 (or 4?) copies had their page-blocks completely torn away from the cover at both the front and back seams. Although it had a stout Smyth-sewn contruction that kept the page-block itself together, and a webbing that was meant to reinforce the glued end-papers that held the cover in place, the elasticity of the thread webbing could do nothing to the end-papers from tearing at the slightest bump, jostle, or loud yelp. The stock was absolutely unsuitable for the application, a brittle & thin rice-paper analogue that couldn't structurally support a 700-page hardcover. It was an embarrassing fuck-up, especially since the book celebrating Fantagraphics epic publishing struggles was self-destructing on delivery... and founder Gary Groth's many, MANY enemies would probably snicker and snidely remark that the book was a perfect metaphor for the company. But they get far more books right than they get wrong. And the looong delay following the first Studio Edition solicitation a year and a half ago suggests they're sorting out printing issues before these make it to stores. That first Studio Edition will be No. 2 on this list when it finally arrives, and the largest book in print, at nearly 1.5-ft-wide, and over 2-ft-tall, reprinting the Sangreal of original comic art: the Sunday pages of Prince Valiant, by Hal Foster. Hell yes. And then there's the 2nd scheduled Studio Edition, which already missed its originally solicited late-May release: a selection of Jaime Hernandez' greatest work in the nearly 40-year history of his beloved 'Locas'. In some ways, the hundreds of comics & softcover collections & hardcover"

Little Nemo in Slumberland: So Many Splendid Sundays! (Volume 1)
by
"The Taschen Box Set, a massive 14" x 17.25", 800 page cloth-bound work of bibliographic art that collects every Sunday page from all three incarnations of McCay's 'Nemo' character, complemented by a softcover monograph providing a wealth of salient biographical, the most important being that Winsor McCay was born a Canadian, like Hal Foster, which makes the two greatest Sunday Page comic-strips of all time - 'Little Nemo in Slumberland' & 'Prince Valiant', Canadian"

The Complete Little Nemo
by
"Taschen's 'The Complete Little Nemo' Box Set is a massive 14" x 17.25", 800 page cloth-bound work of bibliographic art, & a project of love for Benedikt Taschen. Before making Taschen the biggest and most populist Art-book publishing house, his first Artistic love was the comics medium. His prodigious teenaged collection of SequArt, included many of the best artists from European BD, US/UK mainstream & alternative comics, & Japanese Manga... from the first decade of the 20th Century to the 80's to the present day. After amassing this collection, he turned it into a comic shop collects every Sunday page from all three incarnations of McCay's 'Nemo' character, complemented by Comics historian Alexander Braun's "

Turn Loose Our Death Rays and Kill Them All!: The Complete Works of Fletcher Hanks
by
"Fletcher Hanks is a diamond-turd anomaly of the very best-est-y kind, and if 'The Blighted Eye', 'Tony Millionaire's Sock Monkey Treasury' or 'Beasts! Vol. 1 & 2' aren't evidence enough that Jacob Covey is a super-star in the starless night of book design, this beautiful tome should be hefty enough to make up the missing ounces in the burden of proof that weighs every creative sort down. Covey's behind so many of my favorite comic-related books of late, his name is almost as much of a selling point as the author's. Crazy, no?"

Monograph
by
"I shouldn't have included a book I don't have yet, but a Rizzoli monograph dedicated to & designed by Chris Ware? There's not a chance in fucking hell this won't be a work of true bibliographic genius."
