The Huntress (The Dark Queen Saga, #4)
by
"Definitely not Elizabethan...this is one of those dresses that seems to belong to no particular era. Vaguely 18th century (looking at the sleeves) but is that a SEAM down the middle of the bodice? "

What the Lady Wants: A Novel of Marshall Field and the Gilded Age
by
"This novel is set after the Chicago Fire, i.e. in the 1870s, and the dress looks more like an 1850s or 1860s dress. I have issues with this cover design in general--looks like nothing at all in thumbnail, and in print the figure of the woman looks a bit blurry and not at all part of the backdrop, which is overlaid in a sort of glittery effect. I can see what the designer was going for, but it didn't work for me. Still want to read the book, though."
