Listopia > Booker Prize Eligible 2025
Please do not add a book unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure it will be eligible according to the official rules. (See: https://thebookerprizes.com/sites/def...). This means any NOVEL originally written in English (no translations), regardless of the nationality of its author, with a print edition scheduled for publication in the UK and/or Ireland between 1st October 2024 and 30th September 2025. [For books in translation, use THIS list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...]. Self-published novels are not eligible, nor are short story collections, unless there is a definite thread running through and connecting them. Non-fiction works (memoirs, essays, criticism, etc.) are also ineligible, Also, please check to be sure your nominee is not ALREADY in the list under a different edition before you add it.
N.B. This list has no official connection with, or bearing on, the prize. In order to maintain the integrity and legitimacy of this list, books that don't appear to meet eligibility requirements and/or are the result of a bogus 'write-in' campaign, will be removed and only reinstated in the former case by the publisher providing proper documentation to the administrator of a book's legitimacy.

Blue Hour looks like it was published in the UK in March so ineligible - is this correct?

This still would have made it eligible for 2024 rather than 2025 though.

Oh boy! You're right. Must have mixed it up with the Women's Prize thread, 2024 is still very much alright for that. It's been removed now.
A note to add the new novels by Jan Carson, Wendy Erskine and Miriam Toews when more info becomes available.
On her website, Lacey declared The Möbius Book to be her nonfiction debut (although I read it and almost half of it is fiction), so it's not eligible and needs to be removed.
Meike wrote: "On her website, Lacey declared The Möbius Book to be her nonfiction debut (although I read it and almost half of it is fiction), so it's not eligible and needs to be removed."The publisher's website says that it's "a hybrid work that is both non-fiction and fiction", and there have been at least two occasions when the International Booker longlisted books from Fitzcarraldo's non-fiction catalogue, so I think we can leave it on the eligibility list?
The Elements by John Boyne, however, is definitely not eligible and should be removed. It's a US edition and combines several novellas that were published in the UK years ago. The last novella "Air" will be out in May and is eligible.
Just a heads up that I already created the Booker 2026 Listopia here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...
.... since notices of some books to be published after the cut-off date of Oct. 1 are already appearing.
Amanda wrote: "Is The Lamb by Lucy Rose eligible for this year's prize?"I believe so looks like a Jan 25 publication.
Hey just added The History of Sound by Ben Shattuck since the stories are interconnected? But not sure if interconnected enough to be eligible.
Thoughts? :)

Probably WOULD meet that criteria, (since All That Man Is had even less connection and made it in) - but the larger issue is that the UK publisher put it out as an ebook in July 2024, which means it was actually eligible last year, not this, so should be removed. Can some librarian do that please?
Stag Dance by Torrey Peters is a collection of 4 short stories - I don't think this would be eligible.
Sarah wrote: "Stag Dance by Torrey Peters is a collection of 4 short stories - I don't think this would be eligible."Hard to determine (I haven't read it yet), but it's listed as a novel and three short stories - IF there is sufficient connection between them (and they seem to meet that criteria, at least thematically), then like All That Man Is, it could be a contender.
Doug wrote: "The Mainstay at # 137 appears to have no UK publisher - the only editions listed are by SpellBound, which is out of Columbus, Oh. - so is not eligible - Could you remove your vote, Paul? TIA!"The publisher's website is a .co.uk address; the company is a UK company registered at Companies House (Company number 12840886), and it's run by two British women. Not quite sure how much more UK/British you want them to be?
There's a bookstore (not publisher) in Columbus, Ohio in the US with the same name - nothing to do with the book or the press though.
Paul wrote: "Doug wrote: "The Mainstay at # 137 appears to have no UK publisher - the only editions listed are by SpellBound, which is out of Columbus, Oh. - so is not eligible - Could you remove your vote, Pau..."Sorry, I stand corrected - I Googled and the UK publisher didn't come up at all - nor was it available at Blackwells or Waterstones! I deleted the request! :)
I do think the press may lean towards those at the self publishing type end - but that’s true of quite a few small presses (ie they expect author to promote books etc). So I suspect it is very unlikely to appear. Better than all 13 of last year’s list though.

It’s an amazing coincidence that Patrick Holloway book has suddenly rocketed up the rankings with votes from a series of brand new accounts Including three called Patrick and one called Holloway. It’s actually a serious contender getting several longlist prediction tips from Bookstagrammers but not sure why this is necessary.

Gumble's Yard - Golden Reviewer wrote: "It’s an amazing coincidence that Patrick Holloway book has suddenly rocketed up the rankings with votes from a series of brand new accounts Including three called Patrick and one called Holloway. I..."Someone did not read or take seriously the second paragraph of the rules - stuffing of the 'ballot box' with bogus accounts is NOT acceptable and the title was removed. After assurances from the publisher that ballot stuffing will NOT occur again, it has contingently been allowed back on the list - but will be removed again if bogus votes are seen.
UPDATE: So once again, after begrudgingly allowing The Language of Remembering back on the list - it was the subject of more bogus voting/ballot box stuffing - over half of the votes it received this time were from suspect accounts and it has now been removed permanently. Anyone attempting to re-add it will not only have their present votes invalidated but will be banned from participating in any future Booker Listopia I create. You HAVE been warned!I might add that this was totally unnecessary - Mr. Holloway's book has been widely praised, is on several Booktuber's prediction lists and would undoubtedly have garnered a legitimate spot in the rankings without the necessity of 'cheating'. I myself purchased a copy (but have yet to read it). I wish it well in the nominations - this is strictly due to a repeated violation of stated rules.
As an aside I am currently compiling longlist predictions across Instagram, Blogs, You Tube, TikTok and Goodreads and am going to publish a combined prediction Saturday. If you have a prediction you would like to add then I would love to hear from you.
Give yourselves a round of applause! Once again, every Booker contender is somewhere on the list - 12 of the 13 in the top 100. I appreciate all who voted and kept me on my toes monitoring the list. Happy Booker reading. If you wanna get a jumpstart on next year, the Listopia for 2026 is already up, link up above in the rules sectionAudition 3
