F.Y.I. "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" is not a memoir. It is a work of fiction. Memoirs are non-fiction. An additional distinction can be made between memoirs and autobiographies. Technically they are not the same. How concise would you like to be with your list of memoirs?

Technically they are ..."A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is considered to be semi-autobiographical. Because it has some basis in the author's real life, I've allowed it on this list. Any book that is based on the author's own life is okay to put on here.
There are plenty of authors who have written about their own lives, but felt they had to fictionalize things a little bit to keep from offending people, and I would not want to keep off a good work that is actually autobiographical in nature if it has a light layer of fiction on top.
As for the distinction between autobiography and memoirs, I don't worry about it in particular. They're both okay to put on this list.
