A list created by a librarian for public librarians. I am recommending major works written about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its members. This list may have books intended for believing audiences but the purpose of the list is for anyone to have a short list of resources that are (relatively) unbiased for or against the faith. As such, most books are written by scholars through an academic publisher. Some of the authors are practicing Latter-day Saints. Some aren't.
If you want books that talk about more or less objectively about what it is (or was, in the case of historical titles) like in the Church, you have come to the right place.
I am adding sacred works as an exception to this rule so librarians can know for certain what is actually Latter-day Saint scripture vs what is written about said scripture.
If instead you are hoping to find something that validates your beliefs (whether pro- or anti-) then you may be disappointed. Accordingly, I will be monitoring this list to ensure that no polemics are added.
