Ella Seriously? Why isn't the Selection series on this list? It is easily one of the best series I have read!

message 4102: by Kenny (new)

Kenny There are 54 thousand plus books here. If Twilight and the Book of Mormon is top of the list, it's because the people voted for it. If you dont like it, its no problem. People are not the same. I was actually surprised when i cam here and found that people hate Twilight. I loved it. If your favorite book is not here, add it and let people vote. Perhaps it would become top of the list.

message 4103: by Gloria (new)

Gloria How did Twilight make it so far?
Not only are there a lot of fans, but there are a lot of haters, too...
So how did it get to Number 5?

message 4104: by The Dude (new)

The Dude Purely demographics, most people voting on these lists would be young people, and especially young women. Twilight is especially hated and loved by young women more than other demographics. Or at least that's what I think

message 4105: by Rock (new)

Rock Conner I've read 43 of the top 100.

message 4106: by J (last edited Apr 22, 2019 12:16PM) (new)

J Smith When five Harry Potter books are voted within the top 20 or 50 Best books EVER, then you know the world is in trouble. (Edit: However, I guess then we also know at least young people are still reading books. Might have been better to divide them into categories such as Young Adult, Classics etc)

Nicole Collins Barbara wrote: "OMG. Not sure what thats all about but everyone has a right to express themselves about authors and books."

Yes not not in A hateful way that's my point!!! You should definitely express your opinion I'm just saying don't be jerks!!!!

message 4108: by Barbara (new)

Barbara what you perceive as someone being a jerk because of their opinion and what others see as someone just having an opinion are two different things. Why can't people just move on everyone has a right to comment.

Nicole Collins Barbara wrote: "what you perceive as someone being a jerk because of their opinion and what others see as someone just having an opinion are two different things. Why can't people just move on everyone has a right..."I can see your not understanding what I'm saying I'm not talking about having a negative review or perceiving it as such I'm talking about being rude and nasty for no reason its on this list for a reason you don't like it fine but this is not about opinions its about common decency as a human being!!!! I write negative reviews but i don't bash! Have some respect for others!!!

message 4110: by Barbara (new)

Barbara OMG! Of couse we shouldn't be rude, i felt you where bashing me back there. I see this upsets you to know end. There are people who look after these boards and anyone that steps over the boundaries should be booted off but there is nothing you or i can do about this so please don't let these people have any more control over us, just move on. There are decent people out there and haters. i say let them do there hate and ignore them.

message 4111: by Tibor (new)

Tibor Hajdu Maybe this should be called " the best books in English. . .most people read in other than English. . . they might think different. . .

Nicole Collins Barbara wrote: "OMG! Of couse we shouldn't be rude, i felt you where bashing me back there. I see this upsets you to know end. There are people who look after these boards and anyone that steps over the boundaries..."

I wasn't bashing you at all i actually felt the same way i can't tell you how many times I've read horrible comments and that's life i guess its just for some reason here it really bothers me since most are so nice!! Most of the hate is directed towards books others don't like or don't understand the hype and it just feels so disrespectful to the authors and those that love the books! I just wanted to get my point across I'm fine with negative reviews because i always read reviews and in order to be honest there's going be negative reviews and i like to read both to get an idea of what other thought. I try to be respectful in mine though and i just wish others would too some comments have already been removed so this started a while back of course I love this book so im defensive people don't need to agree they just need to respect others! Anyway moving on!!!!

message 4113: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Ok, well i find most of the bashing is on or about the book list. Why even have book lists? I personally could care less if my favorite book is no.1 or not on the list at all.
What bothers me is the rating some of these books get thou. I am truly looking for a good book which includes adventure, crime, escape, psycho, adrenaline, non stop and well written. I read reviews and get sucked into how great many of these books are but end up frustrated and turned off to places like goodreads. I was choosing way better books on my own. I also get frustrated when others say they are on book 52 or 100 like its a race. Reading is suppose to be relaxing entertaining, fun and even sharing with others who have the same interests.
I hope people like you and i learn to ignore all of this crap and just go on with our lives enjoy reading and let the others kill eachother competing.

Well I can agree I've read some awful books because of good reads lol!! I'm going to try to ignore the haters but i think I'll always take up for my favorite books and authors!!! Your right though I don't want to read through that entire list i just look for stuff i think I'll love and go from there!! I know how you feel though its not a race reading is a hobby!!!!

message 4115: by Cat (new)

Cat This whole list is just bad

I think so too! I think about this book all the time.

message 4118: by Christine (new)

Christine Fowler I Hope My Book ends up on this list...what fabulous company...Will Shakespeare

message 4119: by Dave (new)

Dave This is the Allrecipes of booklists: we've got Nicholas Sparks listed between Hemingway and Dickens; and ahead of all of these is a young adult series nobody will (hopefully) remember in 50 years.

message 4120: by Amaranta (new)

Amaranta Shoul be rename to "List of most popular books at any given moment".
This is just stupid.

message 4121: by Donna (new)

Donna Davis Duplicate check link is broken.

message 4122: by Charles (new)

Charles who the hell would vote fucking Outsiders over Hitchhiker's Guide?

message 4123: by Kailah (new)

Kailah Noel I'm pleasantly surprised by this list. It has so many of my favorites, and I'm not used to seeing that. I'm new to Goodreads, and I am loving the diversity and choices so far. This is awesome, and I love the discussion and reading about the books that other people love.

message 4124: by Julian (new)

Julian Meynell Congrats to obscure up and coming playwright William Shakespeare for getting his play Hamlet all the way up to 469 on this list. Only has to rise another 464 spots to beat Twilight! I know you can do it Billy!

I've read the Book of Mormon and it's bad fantasy at best.

message 4129: by [deleted user] (new)

I understand why Harry Potter and the Hunger Games are on this list, but why Twilight?

message 4130: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 25, 2019 08:00AM) (new)

Jazmine wrote: "Twilight is the best book I've read in my entire life! It is awemazing! I love the whole saga and Edward Cullen!"

It's not a saga. It has no plot or story structure. It's basically a book filled with icky purple prose descriptions of somebody's eyes and sparkly perfectioness.

message 4131: by BirdBuddy (new)

BirdBuddy Too much teenager schlop on here

message 4132: by Mikanviola (new)

Mikanviola Elisabeth wrote: "I think you people need to just relax!!! I think "you're just too high strung" and eventually the "strain will be more than you can bear.""
You're right. Just cause somebody read Jane Austen and couldn't see past the period language to the great story within and think their opinion matters more than thousands of other people doesn't mean it's an awful list.

message 4133: by Mikanviola (new)

Mikanviola Joan wrote: "proof that the truth is not democratic =/

seriously, jane austen? errughhh."

Jane Austen paved the way for millions of female authors. Her books stand the test of time as amazing pieces of literature. This is the BEST books ever, not your personal favorites.

message 4134: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth Bangs Really? This is THE list of best books ever. See you later.

message 4135: by Patricia (last edited Dec 21, 2019 10:38AM) (new)

Patricia It is obvious that Goodreads glory days were when Twilight was trending. And it is obvious too, that the majority of Goodreads users are teens. Not hating, I love YA literature, but this list should be more serious, come on!
Can you all vote massively for the classics, so we can fix this mess?

message 4136: by Rob (new)

Rob Taylor Really? The Hunger Games is the best book ever? EVER? It's entertaining, and I love how it got my kids into reading along with Harry Potter. Best ever? Come on.

message 4137: by [deleted user] (new)

My most favorite book till now is The Avalonia Chronicles ......I have fallen in love with it

message 4138: by Zuzana (new)

Zuzana Jazmine wrote: "Twilight is the best book I've read in my entire life! It is awemazing! I love the whole saga and Edward Cullen!"

I wonder what these people think about Twilight and its literary value 10 years later.

message 4139: by David (new)

David Kitts The comments are more fun to read than the “list”. Both hysterical

I voted for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix... Although it was very close to Ender's game, by Orson Scott Card...

message 4141: by Tom (new)

Tom I have never posted on this site until now....loved the comments, the irony, the humour the frustrated. Three of my favourite books are/were, "Rally Round the Flag Boys" Max shulman, "Exile" Denise Mina and "Sophia Khan is not Obligated" Aisha Malik. Also, "The Silver Snake, no idea who the writer was, a sister bought that for me when I was six or seven....born in Scotland, the country which was a year ahead of England as regards to education.
As for the classics, how does one decide on an order, Dickens, Tolstoi, Balzac, the guy who wrote Slaughter house 5, Kurt somebody, Fitzgerals (Tender is the Night, Faulkner, Robert Louis (pronounced the same as Joe's last name, Stephenon, Ken Bruen, and so on and so on.

Tom Well done Laura

message 4143: by Tom (new)

Tom oops, Laura post that which I commented on eleven years ago

message 4144: by Cleydson (new)

Cleydson Barbosa Well...

if the list is built up from the readers choices, I cannot complain then...

message 4145: by Tom (new)

Tom Cleydson: almost sure you can complain but I believe that others on this site would much prefer your choices.

message 4146: by Cleydson (new)

Cleydson Barbosa Tom wrote: "Cleydson: almost sure you can complain but I believe that others on this site would much prefer your choices."

You mean "would" or "wouldn't"?

For depending on that, I might craft one by my own...

message 4147: by Ana (new)

Ana 1984. is way too low! I mean, Twilight is number 5? That's just shameful, it shouldn't even be on the list of best books ever..

message 4148: by John (new)

John So many duplicates - different editions of the same book. Is there any way to fix this? It seems like all the votes for the same book should be combined in one edition. This way, there are people voting on different versions of the same book and the numbers don't reflect how many actually voted for the book.

message 4149: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I understand that everyone has different tastes in books, and that I probably shouldn't judge people, but here I am doing it.

Twilight??
The FIFTH Harry Potter, off all the Harry Potters?
How on earth is the Hunger Games #1 for the best books OF ALL TIME!?
I'm sorry, I know this list is subjective. But seriously.

message 4150: by Barbara (new)

Barbara This list, I wish Goodreads would stop this List. It dosent mean nothing. Its just based on peoples votes and some people can vote the same book a hundred times or more but it dosent mean its better than anyother book written.
Forget this stupid List and read what entertains you its too stupid to argue about
