Zhanet Dzhigova You got to be kidding me. :D This is a joke.

message 3252: by M. (new)

M. The Hunger Games? Everyone is allowed to like what they like, but if to you it's the best book ever written, you need to read a little more...

message 3253: by Shubham (new)

Shubham Mishra Atlas Shrugged should be on a higher ranking....

message 3254: by Aneela (last edited Mar 12, 2014 12:21PM) (new)

Aneela This is one massively skewed list.

message 3255: by [deleted user] (new)

So this is a list for people who stopped reading once they turned fourteen, no?

message 3256: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) ....hummm, you mean they were still reading at 12 or 13?

message 3257: by Elle (new)

Elle I'm sorry, but
WHY OH WHY IS TWILIGHT ON HERE???

message 3258: by Gavin (last edited Mar 22, 2014 01:03AM) (new)

Gavin 310 pages!? LOL Funny list. Apparently every single book ever is in here. The Hunger Games #1, though...

message 3259: by Linda (new)

Linda Todd I most say I have a number of books that I would say are my favorites and some of them are on the list but to many to go throw just now but I will come back and continue with the list where I left off and as always keep smiling and happy reading with love from wee me.xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dodo Gavin wrote: "Apparently every single book ever is in here."

No, certainly not. Far from it...

message 3261: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) The "list here" are pretty much all the same. the same books are on the best books ever and the worst books ever. I suppose there are only so many books....

Nancy Nikki wrote: "proof that the truth is not democratic =/

seriously, jane austen? errughhh."

I cannot agree more. The fact TWILIGHT was at the top, and Catch -22 was at the bottom?

message 3263: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) I was hoping the Yellow Pages would make the top, but no one reads it anymore...

message 3264: by Andrew (last edited Mar 28, 2014 09:48AM) (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch If you made a movie about the yellow pages it would.

message 3265: by Dodo (new)

Dodo Andrew wrote: "If you made a movie about the yellow pages it would."

Precisely!!!

message 3267: by Snootyowl (new)

Snootyowl They didn't have all of the mortal instruments or any of the infernal devices :( disappointed at that...

message 3268: by [deleted user] (new)

I am glad that the 'Harry Potter' books are quite near to the top, but I do not understand how 'The Book Thief' isn't?

message 3269: by Saumya (new)

Saumya Marla wrote: "this is the second list--worst books was the first--and i'm done. this is madness. i mean, how many mormons congregated to vote the book of mormon as a top 100 book? really?"

Agree. Don't know why, those fantasies are not the best for sure

message 3270: by Oussama (last edited Apr 01, 2014 10:52AM) (new)

Oussama Saidi How in the world can a top 100 books list be without any book for Albert Camus in it.. this is really unfair..

Richard Oussema wrote: "How in the world can a top 100 books list doesn't have any book for Albert Camus in it.. this is really unfair.."

A cause d'une peste, il y a eu une chute dans le niveau de qualite des listes.

message 3272: by Kevin (last edited Apr 01, 2014 04:12PM) (new)

Kevin Here's a suggestion for all the people complaining about this list:

1. Pick a few books that are truly worthy of the top 100 list.

2. Everyone who complained about the top 100 list should place their votes on the newly added "worthy" books.

We have 69 pages of complaints (more or less), with a minimum of 35 replies on each page. So do the math (69 x 35 = 2415) Problem solved for the most part. the worthy books should at least crack the 100 mark.

Another idea: Everyone complaining here should go back and make sure they voted on some serious literature. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's nest has 2000 votes, same said for The Hobbit, The Catcher In The Rye, The Great Gatsby, War and Peace, and many others.

There are nearly 19,000 votes for The Hunger Games, it's a pop phenomenon. What do you people expect? How many fans are buying up Jane Austin, Ernest Hemingway, or Charles Dickens books? You simply cant fight pop culture, you have to learn to embrace it.

So, quit complaining become active! Make it happen! Lets see Crime and Punishment hit the 20,000 mark!

message 3273: by Sonee (new)

Sonee Can't believe a best book ever list where "Twilight" and hunger games can make to top 100

message 3274: by Oussama (new)

Oussama Saidi Sonee wrote: "Can't believe a best book ever list where "Twilight" and hunger games can make to top 100"

You simply can not fight pop culture like Kevin said above...

message 3275: by Kristine L. (new)

Kristine L. My top votes: These Strange Ashes and A Path Through Suffering. Both by Elisabeth Elliot.

message 3276: by Saeed (new)

Saeed why is twilight even on this list?

message 3277: by Kevin (new)

Kevin David wrote: "Accepting it doesn't mean one has to embrace it."

Try to give it a little squeeze David... ;-)

message 3278: by JDB (new)

JDB POP goes the culture!

ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I truly hope most of these books in the top 5 spot are there for no other reason than guilty pleasure reads.

message 3279: by [deleted user] (new)

The Hunger Games, I will admit was a very action-packed novel. I guess not everyone enjoys the same things, but if we all did the world would be a very boring place to live in.
My opinion:
Remember books become very successful when a movie adaption of it is being released? Surely before Twilight was a movie not many people had acknowledged it very clearly, also the same applies to The Hunger Games. In a few years time these books may probably not even be on this list, other bestselling movie adaptions probably will be. Also, Twilight may be well hated, but it is also really, really loved and it wasn't really long ago since the last movie came out, so I guess that's how it works.

message 3280: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth The Lord of the Rings is placed dramatically lower than Twilight? Seriously?

message 3281: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl M. Molly wrote: "Ah the stupidity of lists. You'll notice the Best and Worst lists are almost identical. "

I agree. Screw the truth!! It doesn't hold up to lies.

message 3282: by Patty (new)

Patty McKenna Van Hulle This is not an easy, user friendly list.

message 3283: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl M. No

message 3284: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl M. Always something.

message 3285: by Davida (last edited Apr 13, 2014 11:25PM) (new)

Davida Chazan Nikki wrote: "proof that the truth is not democratic =/

Yes, Jane Austen. People still read her books after all these years.

But seriously? Hunger Games, Harry Potter and Twilight? ARGH! You'll see - those will be forgotten as soon as the next "big hit" comes along. People will still be reading Austen hundreds of years from now.

message 3286: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl M. http://www.openfilm.com/videos/in-the...

It's all good. Remember we are all running the same race. Some just get to the finish line faster than others.

message 3287: by Gianna (new)

Gianna Summer I sometimes wonder when i see this list: I have a totally different taste in books. Is it just me?

message 3288: by xellie (new)

xellie Twilight #5???
This is so wrong. Extremely wrong.
I don't hate that book or anything. But there are better books, way better books than Twilight and it kind of bothers me.

message 3289: by Gayathri (new)

Gayathri Mohan In my opinion, all the Harry Potter books should be placed first, as they are very well-written and are very interesting. Then, after that, maybe hunger games. I really don't think Twilight and Jane Eyre should be there..

message 3290: by Lynn (last edited Apr 19, 2014 12:15PM) (new)

Lynn I think this list is not the best books in order of quality, but is a collection of books that has had a substantial impact on a significant number of people. Not all the same people, of course.

message 3291: by Rosver (new)

Rosver Kevin wrote: "Here's a suggestion for all the people complaining about this list:

If that is the case then why don't we remove the words 'best' and 'ever' from the list title. That would have solved the problem no?

message 3292: by Rosver (new)

Rosver Wow this is one unhelpful list.

Not interested really in this 'lists' stuff to be honest, but still many lists manages to make itself useful in some way. But this list? It appears to be lacking in thought in its contents and don't appear to have any point as far as I could see. It appears more like a random group of books than anything.

message 3293: by Kalin (new)

Kalin I personally like it. It shows what's on many readers' minds right now: a "snapshot" of favorite books.

It's also interesting to follow how it changes over time.

message 3294: by Caity (new)

Caity Yeah... this list looks like it was created by teenagers or children - almost all of them are YA or children's books. What's up with that? I've looked through 3 pages and it's not even worth seeing the rest of the list... who made this?

message 3295: by Nente (new)

Nente Just went and voted for the 15 books which I think the best I ever read (and keep on a separate shelf). Let that be a small contribution.

message 3296: by Pachinko (new)

Pachinko Any list comprising such a ridiculous amount of entries (in this case more than 30, 000), regardless of its content is completely useless from a practical point of view.

message 3297: by Christine (new)

Christine E. I've loved and read all the books I've voted for and I WOULD BE PROUD IF MY OWN BOOK: 'LISA BENNETT VISITS UTOPIA' would appear on that list, very proud in fact, as I stand by my written words
Christine E. Mackenzie
author

message 3298: by Rosver (new)

Rosver Pachinko: You got a point. I have looked in the list too and it is just useless. There are many books here that I have rated low (3 or less), not something I would call best ever. That itself makes me doubt if any of the books in the list that I haven't read would really give me enjoyment or satisfaction.

Christine: Eh? I looked at the book and it has a big absence of reviews, ratings and readers. Is was published in 2011 and it seems to have not been noticed by anyone. That seems to disqualify this book from this list for it doesn't seems to be a 'best book ever' in any measure.

Faith In Goodreads community lost.
