Gretchen @jade
Amen.
That exactly what I thought.

message 2802: by Chris (new)

Chris The fact that all the Twilight books are on this list makes me sad beyond belief.

message 2803: by Sam (new)

Sam This thread of comments has been very entertaining reading. I want to go through the book list of everyone who made me laugh. how do I do that?...

message 2804: by Snowballina (last edited Jan 24, 2013 09:04AM) (new)

Snowballina Twilight, Really?

message 2805: by Snowballina (new)

Snowballina Leslie wrote: "Twilight is number 4? A classic piece of literature? Absolutely not! "
I totally agree.

message 2806: by Shayan (new)

Shayan Foroozesh Oh! seriously people want to choose Twilight and Harry potter series as the best books ever?!

message 2807: by Wolvenkind (new)

Wolvenkind The majority is always wrong.

message 2808: by Neven (new)

Neven Humphrey How come there are no books by Ed McBain here? Someone made a booboo...

message 2809: by Hyberta (new)

Hyberta Matraxhiu the pretty little liars and the harry potter series has been the most beautiful books i`ve ever read in my whole life! ♥

message 2810: by Wolvenkind (new)

Wolvenkind Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are really beautiful stories. Perfect way to escape in a world of fantasie. But - and Harry Potter more than LOTR - they are not top books that deserve to be up in the list. It's not big literature in my opinion.

message 2811: by Andrew (last edited Jan 27, 2013 06:26PM) (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch Best books ever, are you kidding me?

80% of the books on this list should not even be on the list and some of the books on this list make my list for worst books ever written. I'm surprised the Sword of Truth (one of the worst series ever written) is not #1 considering all the junk on this list.

message 2812: by Steven (new)

Steven Worst "best book" list I've ever seen. The Twilight books...really? They may be popular, but seeing these books on the list shows that "best" clearly means something different to many people.

message 2813: by Brian (new)

Brian Barber Amber wrote: "This list is a joke!"

Yes indeed!

message 2814: by Brian (new)

Brian Barber Paul wrote: "The Book of Mormon? You gotta be kidding me. I'd put "Where the Wild Things Are" as being more "literature" than that book.

I agree, this list is loaded and biased.

"

Mormons do love their fiction.

message 2815: by Anya (new)

Anya Now that I think out it... Hunger Games should not be on this list either. No one seems to care that it is FIRST PLACE.
-.-

message 2816: by Neven (new)

Neven Humphrey 'Hunger Games' is Stephen King's 'The Running Man', except with children. (Or so I heard.)

message 2817: by Andrew (last edited Jan 30, 2013 09:50PM) (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch Hunger Games, and all the other young adult literature should not even be on this list. And yes it is running man remade as a young adult book.

message 2818: by Jason (new)

Jason Moorhead The top of this list is more 'Best Books Ever... that were recently made into movies.'

message 2819: by Wolfe (new)

Wolfe Tone No. 1-10 make me want to weep and never visit this site again. Seriously guys? I can't even imagine liking Twilight or HP even when I was 12 or 16, but even if I did I would understand that by any serious standards they cannot be considered 'good' books, let alone best...

How about Hamlet? Faust? Don Quichotte? Odyssey? Divina Comedia? Those are some of the best books ever. Or if you want to go for something a bit more modern, Lolita, The Trial or 100 years of solitude?

message 2820: by Bernadith (new)

Bernadith Ato i think The Wardstone Chronicles should be in the list, the top at that. It's one of the best read ever!

message 2821: by Theuniverse67 (last edited Feb 01, 2013 09:32PM) (new)

Theuniverse67 This list is definitely a failure.
Everyone just votes for the books that are in, and that seems to be it.
The books at the top of the list would certainly never be considered the best books ever in my eyes. To each is own though, I guess.

message 2822: by Ame (new)

Ame this list is clearly just mainstream why did the creater call it BEST BOOKS EVER they should of called it BEST BOOKS 2013 THAT WILL SUCK BY 2014 OR SOONER

message 2823: by Robyn (new)

Robyn Wolfe wrote: "No. 1-10 make me want to weep and never visit this site again. Seriously guys? I can't even imagine liking Twilight or HP even when I was 12 or 16, but even if I did I would understand that by any ..."

Wow, Wolfe...you read my mind. Twilight and similar are simple, trite, and unimaginative...not to mention poorly written. (Yes, I did read Twilight to see what my teen was raving about.) Where on this list are the literary jewels? So many missing! I won't read this list anymore. I'll look elsewhere for recommendations and reviews.

message 2824: by Kalin (last edited Feb 02, 2013 08:34PM) (new)

Kalin This list (of comments ;) is getting better by the hour.

Gives me all the fuel I need for my research on literary criticism and aesthetic absolutism. :D

message 2825: by [deleted user] (new)

Seriously? Twilight? The Da Vinci Code? Could someone explain me why they are considered their favorite book? It's just curiosity, I found them barely readable.

message 2826: by Pattie (new)

Pattie Too bad I could only vote for 100 books!!!!! I didn't even get a quarter way through the list!!! Maybe different lists could be made for different genres? :) As for my fav book, that's easy, it's BLUE MOON by Laurell. I. Hamilton. :)

message 2827: by L (new)

L I just registered to this site. Am I supposed to take this list seriously?

message 2828: by Neven (new)

Neven Humphrey No-one is, Luis, but do what you want.

message 2829: by Bill (new)

Bill Luis wrote: "I just registered to this site. Am I supposed to take this list seriously?"

That's for you to find out... and it'll define what kind of reader you are! Tongue in Cheek

Josef, I appreciate your comment. It has intrigued me to add the Book of Mormon to my "to-read " list. My grandfather was Mormon in Salt Lake City, but my Dad did not follow that path. It would be very interesting to read what my grandfather read back in the early 1900s. Seriously, thank you for your comment!

message 2831: by Anna (new)

Anna Ew, why is Twilight second? I got how it can be good to some (morons), but those who think it's the best have obviously never read real literature!

message 2832: by Alleycat (last edited Feb 11, 2013 04:03AM) (new)

Alleycat lol i cracked up at twilight :D

message 2833: by David (new)

David Garrido e Cunha This list is awfull..

message 2834: by Josh (new)

Josh Amber wrote: "This list is a joke!"

It really is.

message 2835: by Prpages (new)

Prpages It's good to see the classics!!!! :)

message 2836: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch It's just a popularity list, not a list based on any real literary taste. Jersey Shores is popular, does that mean it's the best TV show ever made?

They need to change the title to, "Most popular books, as voted on my people who use this site."

message 2837: by Ramesh (new)

Ramesh What would this list look like if Young Adult books were weighted appropriately? Would the same readers vote for Hunger Games, Harry Potter and Twilight books do so again five years after reading them, assuming they read the other books on the list?

message 2838: by Michael (new)

Michael I really don't care what people read as long as they read. We all have read books in our tweens and teens which we are embarrassed to admit to now, but that reading experience lead to deeper, more intensive works.
Besides, this is only a list, and lists are fun!

message 2839: by Kalin (new)

Kalin Michael wrote: "I really don't care what people read as long as they read. We all have read books in our tweens and teens which we are embarrassed to admit to now, but that reading experience lead to deeper, more intensive works."

message 2840: by Jack (new)

Jack Hi everyone,

I have created a new group called Goodreads All Sorts and I'd love for people to join it or just even just give it a look. It's a group that discusses anything and everything. There will be monthly group reads, movies, and music. There is a folder for everything you could think of. I'd really like if people could spread the word because I'd love for the group to be a success. Here is the link to the group:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/9...

Thanks very much,
Jack :-)

message 2841: by Kofi (new)

Kofi how many of you have actually read the mormon book? makes for interesting reading. did not vote for it though.i'm not a mormon.

message 2843: by Anthony (last edited Feb 17, 2013 01:19PM) (new)

Anthony The Hunger Games, The Da Vinci Code, and the (entire) Twilight series, above Dickens, Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, and Faulkner (notably in absentia)? I just don't think people read profound literature anymore. It's all about the romance, the drama, the excitement, and not about the ideas, the poetry, and the pathos. On the other hand, it's good to see Jane Austen (almost) in the top ten.

message 2844: by Jonathan (last edited Feb 17, 2013 09:21PM) (new)

Jonathan The Count of Monte Cristo at #933?!?

While countless other classics are buried way too deep in the list, deep below some of the rankest pulp fiction?

I would understand if this was a list of people's *favourite* books. But this is supposed to be a list of the *best* books ever.

Something is wrong here...

message 2845: by Aisha (new)

Aisha Nutella is tasty.... *spaces out*

message 2846: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch Hunger Games is a rewrite of the Running Man by Stephen Kind and none of those books should be in the top 1,000 of best books ever written. Sure they are in the top ten of the most popular books of the last 20 years, but best books ever written is utterly ridiculous, and sickening to anyone that's read something besides young adult fiction.

message 2847: by Sandys (new)

Sandys Nunes bad list. :(

message 2848: by Naomi (last edited Feb 20, 2013 08:24PM) (new)

Naomi Marshall 23,886 books I doubt that they are all bad. 86,566 voters, dang, how did that happen?

message 2849: by Sandys (new)
