message 1101: by Jonathan (last edited May 31, 2010 06:08AM) (new)

Jonathan HOW can Twilight be at No.3! The people who voted for Twilight need to read more, to grow up and start reading the books worthy to be on this list.
The Catcher in the Rye
Animal Farm
Narnia
The Lovely Bones
Harry Potter
and The Diary of Anne Frank.

Jonathan Chelsea wrote: "Why is Twilight here and not Harry Potter? Harry Potter is definitely better"

I agree! Harry Potter is amazing! I'm getting really P'd off with Twilight.

message 1103: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Ann, what you posted was very offensive to Bob! You should be ashamed! AND I also think that Dostevesky should be atleast in the top 10!

message 1104: by Kierenne (last edited May 31, 2010 10:20PM) (new)

Kierenne It's rather depressing that Twilight is currently higher on the list then books such as the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

message 1105: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Walker The great thing about voting is that You Can Vote!

That means people are encharge of what is considered a favorite. It looks like you can probably add what you feel is your all time favorite.
Isn't it great that we can even complain or that one person can feel a certain way and not push it on another person. I am sure as more people vote voting won't seem so one sided.
Keep Reading my friends.

message 1106: by Meredith (new)

Meredith I remember reading "A tree grows in Brooklyn" when I was young. There are several things from the book that I still remember more than 30 years later. Doesn't that make a good book...one that is worth remembering?

message 1107: by Stacy (new)

Stacy Simpson I have not read half of these books YIKES!

message 1108: by Robert (new)

Robert Thatch There should be one or more books on the list by Miguel Asturias, Nobel Prize-winning author from Guatemala. He preceded Marquez in magical realism with "El Presidente," "Men of Maize," and "The Banana Trilogy."

message 1109: by Claire (new)

Claire I have read the English version of the Koran and it is symmetrical and elegant in its beauty the version I read is by A. Yusef Ali and its poetry steeps new horizons , I would recommend this version for artistic elegance . I've read the old testaments of The Bible and there is a nourishing simplicity about it but I can't comment on The Book of Mormon.

message 1110: by Jesse (new)

message 1111: by Jesse (new)

message 1113: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Parks blue

message 1114: by Dale (new)

Dale Oh brother. If Twilight and the Book of Mormon make it, of what value is this list? How can The Lovely Bones beat out William Shakespeare? Check this in ten years. Half these books will have vanished from the public's consciousness.

message 1115: by Dale (new)

Dale Ok, someone found Twilight "awemazing"? I guess that is why it is on her list. And come on, "The Da Vinci Code"? The writing style is one step up from Danielle Steele. Garbage prose. How can that be the best book ever written. I am with Greg, message 48 - some of these voters need to buy books at someplace that is not a grocery store or Target.

message 1116: by Blythe (new)

Blythe I hate everything about Twilight.

message 1117: by Bella (new)

Bella OMG I ABSOLUTELY LOOVVE TWILIGHT! That's the only good book on this list. All of the others are stupid and boring... they really annoy me. All you twilight haters are just jealous!!

message 1118: by Sienna (new)

Sienna nicola wrote: "proof that the truth is not democratic =/

seriously, jane austen? errughhh."

dude, what? jane austen is the greatest author since shakespear. do you even know what literature is??

message 1119: by Athaya (new)

Athaya Agree, I'm annoyed with Twilight. I'm happy To Kill A Mockingbird is number one :D

message 1120: by Dina (new)

Dina has no one read the conch bearer? really this book is really good i like the books on the list but twilight is too new to be poppin up everywhere that annoys me i agreee Kristen yu posted the comment before

person Kirsten wrote: "I'm annoyed with Twilight. Extremely

And where is The Shack?"

I know. I mean, it's not the books themselves I'm annoyed with. The Twilight Saga was fantastic until it got to be so obnoxious. All the ditsy fourteen year old girls out there who are all, "ohmagahd, i lik luv edward twlight is like the best book in like the hol univres!!" THAT'S what annoys me. Not the books themselves, though. It's not Stephenie Meyer's fault that a perfectly nice book was ruined by gaga teenage girls.

Don't be annoyed with the books. It's a fun series to read, and it's not bad. It's just the stupid, obnoxious teenage girls who post these types of comments that are annoying. I mean, for real. You're going to say that Twilight is better than To Kill a Mockingbird? The Chronicles of Narnia? The Lovely Bones? Pride and Prejudiced? I'm sorry, but intelligent people cannot call themselves literate people if all they read is Twilight, and all the other classics are just "boring".

message 1123: by person (new)

person Kierenne wrote: "It's rather depressing that Twilight is currently higher on the list then books such as the Bible and the Book of Mormon."

You can blame the lonely thirteen year old girls for that one.

I'm so sick of stupid vampire books, already. I mean, Twilight was fun to read. Enough already. There's only so many vampire romances a girl can take.

message 1126: by Heather (new)

Heather Miller Um I have to disagree with you Ian that the Koran has no lyrical beauty it's perfectly symmetrical and has a distinct fluid beat have you read it , there is a very obvious melodic cadence that is natural and symphonic .

person Booby wrote: "stop reading and do something with your life"

I'm getting this insane urge to lecture you on the importance of literature.

message 1128: by A. (new)

While I agree with you about the importance of literature, I think it's safe to say that the person who posted that comment was merely looking for strong reactions. ;)

Lol yeah, considering the user's name!! They sound so mature, don't you think, this "booby" person?

message 1132: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy If I was 14, I would have found Twilight to be amazing. I read it because I now teach high school and my students are into it, so I've read the first two of the series. I don't especially feel the need to read the rest of them. Those "Twilight Moms" really creep me out.

message 1133: by Raleigh (new)

Raleigh This list is a freaking joke, good god.

message 1134: by Adam (new)

Adam yay THG has been bumped up to number 106!!! keep voting to get it in the top hundred!

message 1135: by Amalia Amanda (new)

Amalia Amanda Kasih Harry Potter ! needless to say . . that's book is epic!

message 1136: by [deleted user] (new)

with Pride&Prejudice???
who vote to these books??

honestly, I think they should have some separate lists. You know, one for best classics and one for best modern or something. I agree, Twilight is not the third best book in history. Even if I liked it a lot, it's not the third best by any standard, except maybe best modern teen literature.

message 1138: by Elana (new)

Elana i love alot of these books!! inculding twillight!!!!!

message 1139: by person (new)

person Elana wrote: "i love alot of these books!! inculding twillight!!!!!"

You are aware that you spelled Twilight wrong and that you have five exclamation marks behind it, right? These kind of posts and this kind of talk is what makes the Twilight series so obnoxious and that is why most people don't like it.

message 1140: by Seri (new)

Seri Kirsten wrote: "I'm annoyed with Twilight. Extremely

I totally agree. Twilight shouldn't be on the Top 3!
It should if you change the name of the list: Worst Books Ever.

message 1141: by Emily (new)

Emily ok guys. no need to get all mad at someone with religion. I'm not Mormon and don't plan on becoming one any time soon, but there's no need to kick and scream and put sown someone else's beliefs. I definitely agree with Jade.

message 1146: by Macivors (new)

Macivors Hmmmm - noting on the list by Arthur Clarke or Isaac Asimov!

message 1147: by Elana (new)

Elana ummmm lets just say every one has different taste in books like food so we all like different books so im not hating any of these books. i know grammar a little off but im in a hurry

message 1148: by Andrew (last edited Jun 30, 2010 08:37AM) (new)

Andrew I think Emily is completely correct. Even if I wasn't Mormon, it seems to make no sense that there's dozens of comments that say that that it's stupid that Mormons are voting for the Book of Mormon.

message 1149: by Andrew (new)

Andrew And about Twilight, the fandom has corrupted it. And the movie is corrupting the fandom. It felt like my insides were being twisted when I read a comment saying something like, "I love Twilight! All the other books are stupid and boring." All that shows is that the person hates reading and only likes Twilight because she wants to read about that sickening movie. HOWEVER I actually only have a minor problem with that. The main problem is that there are thousands of these girls all jumping on goodreads only to vote for Twilight books on every single list possible and rating 5 stars for every Stephenie Meyers books and turning goodreads into something else. THAT's what I'm annoyed at- it would be simply an opinion if Twilight made this list, and I would be fine with it.

message 1150: by Elana (new)
