With a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Temple University and certifications in personal training, precision nutrition, and health coaching, Kristen has spent over 15 years helping people understand human behavior, resilience, and transformation. But Kristen’s curiosity about what drives human behavior extends beyond wellness. After years of examining personal transformation, she found herself drawn to darker questions: What pushes ordinary people past their breaking points? How does trauma shape identity and destiny? Can understanding someone’s past explain their crimes—or excuse them?

These questions led her to write psychological mysteries under the pen name K.A. Carter. Her debut crime novel, REMAINS TO BE SEEN—the first in a planned series set against Colorado’s rugged landscapes—explores themes of heritage, justice, and revenge through the eyes of a determined detective and a killer haunted by the past. Her background in exercise physiology and behavioral psychology gives her a unique lens on the motivations that drive her characters to unthinkable choices.

As an active member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime and Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, Kristen is deeply engaged in the mystery writing community. She attends conferences, participates in workshops, and stays connected with fellow authors working in psychological suspense.

When she’s not writing about health or crafting mysteries, Kristen can be found hiking Colorado trails, discovering inspiration in quiet coffee shops, or stopping at roadside historical markers. Whether exploring wellness or writing suspense, she remains fascinated by the same core question: what makes us human?
