Kimberly Baer wrote her first story at age six. It was about a baby chick that hatched out of a little girl's Easter egg after somehow surviving the hard-boiling process. Nowadays she writes in a variety of genres, including young adult, middle-grade, and adult romantic suspense. She lives in Virginia, where she likes to go power-walking on days when it's not too hot, too cold, too rainy, too snowy, or too windy. On indoor days, you might find her working through her lengthy to-be-read list or working on her next novel.

You can call her "Kim." All her friends do.

My YA paranormal novel THE HAUNTED PURSE was inspired by a true incident. My car keys disappeared from my purse and later turned up in a spot I'd checked several times. My conclusion: I'd been pranked by an otherworldly spirit. I liked that explanation better than the alternative: I was an idiot who hadn't seen what was right there in front of me!(less)

Review of Little Eyes

Little Eyes Little Eyes by Samanta Schweblin

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So many stories start with an intriguing premise but then quickly drop the ball. "Downsizing," starring Matt Damon, comes to mind (though, granted, it's a movie, not a book). That premise deals with a process that shrinks people down to just a few inches tall as a way to deal with resource shortages and other environmental issues. The noti Read more of this blog post »

The Haunted Purse by Kimberly Baer
"I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Haunted Purse. The plot is fresh and fun—shame on that trick-playing purse! It’s a well-plotted mystery with a fantastical twist. That itself would be fun, but the book is much more than that. The story is so multi-la" Read more of this review »

The Haunted Purse by Kimberly Baer
"I am a huge fan of plucky protagonists who make their own way against the odds. The Haunted Purse is one such story. Teenager Libby Dawson buys an old purse in a thrift store that turns out to be no ordinary item. But then Libby is no ordinary teenag" Read more of this review »
The Nightingale Kept Singing by Teddi Ahrens
"Extensively researched, beautifully written, and sprinkled throughout with moving poetry and pen-and-ink drawings, The Nightingale Kept Singing is the perfect title for this novel that captures one woman’s fight to save the Soviet Union against Hitle" Read more of this review »
The Haunted Purse by Kimberly Baer
"This book is far more than the mystery behind a possessed purse, as original as that idea is. It is filled with complex, rich characters, and you cannot help but root for scrappy-but-sensitive main character Libby. The author’s deft handling of teens" Read more of this review »

The Nightingale Kept Singing is a powerful historical novel that will stay with you long after the final page. Like the bird in its title, the story reminds us that even in humanity’s darkest hours, courage and hope can continue to sing.

Kimberly Baer Yay--my novel (The Haunted Purse) and author profile page are finally on Goodreads! I've never really been active here, so I need to get busy. I have zero followers at the moment, which is pretty sad.
