An excellent overview of Packer's thought. As always, ad fontes, but Storms does a great job of driving you there himself. He's certainly added to my reading list. ...more

The King and the Dragon by James W. Shrimpton
"A symbolic story, with Dragons, Knights, and Kings, to represent the Biblical story of Jesus overcoming sin & death.

I think this story is told beautifully, in a rhyming, heroic story-telling way. For younger readers, they may "miss" the Biblical sym" Read more of this review »

“Here we stand, God’s word alone
Our solid rock and stay.
For only in that word is shown
The true and living way.”
James W. Shrimpton

“My comfort, both in life and death,
Is knowing I am not my own,
But every moment, every breath
Belongs to Christ and him alone.”
James W. Shrimpton

“Most of us are called on to perform tasks far beyond what we can do. Our capabilities seldom match our aspirations, and we are often woefully unprepared. To this extent, we are all Assistant Pig-Keepers at heart.”
Lloyd Alexander, The Book of Three

“Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed.”
G.K. Chesterton

“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
J.R.R. Tolkien

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
