Honestly, I didn’t enjoy INSURGENT as much as I enjoyed DIVERGENT. It would have been a perfect read, but I had some issues with it. I won’t talk about those issues now; first I’ll talk about what I liked in the book.

INSURGENT is one book filled with surprises and a lot of revelations about the dystopian world and characters the author created. After imagining what some of the other factions might look like and how the people live inside them, I get to experience it myself here. I was transporte Honestly, I didn’t enjoy INSURGENT as much as I enjoyed DIVERGENT. It would have been a perfect read, but I had some issues with it. I won’t talk about those issues now; first I’ll talk about what I liked in the book.

INSURGENT is one book filled with surprises and a lot of revelations about the dystopian world and characters the author created. After imagining what some of the other factions might look like and how the people live inside them, I get to experience it myself here. I was transported to the Amity, then the Factionless, then the Candor, and finally to the Erudite. I was also brought back to the Abnegation. Thus it feels like I’ve lived in all of these factions. The author describes each scene so well I could picture everything in my head. The writing is good, the sentences and paragraphs flows so well, and the pace is fast – I kept turning pages after pages even after deciding I would stop, do something else and then continue reading again.

My disappointment, however, were the two main characters, those two people who made me fall in love with the first book, that kick-ass heroine and the mysterious, quiet guy: Tris and Four (He’s referred to Tobias almost throughout the whole book, but I prefer the name Four) I felt like Tris and Four were replaced by completely different people. Yes, I know that characters in a book, especially in a series, ought to go through some changes. But they seemed to develop into characters I wouldn’t care to read about. Four changes from the cool guy he was in the first book to some annoying guy here. He keeps secrets from the girl he loves, he’s always angry with her, he always screams at her, even though he knows all what she has passed through. He just wasn’t the supportive and cool guy I liked in the first book. Also, he was more like a secondary character in this one.

Tris is worse. I was put off by her too much whining. She is quite different from the tough, resilient character I got to know in the first book. Yeah, I know it’s hard to get over the death of your loved ones, and it’s harder to put guilt behind you’ve killed a friend, but at some point you just have to put everything behind you and move on, considering the kind of dangerous society you live in, and considering the fact that a lot of people want you dead. Tris was so full of indecision in this one, and I wondered whether she’d borrowed the traits of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. At some point I felt like screaming at her, “Come on, Tris. Pick up that gun and shoot at your enemies!” I hope she’d have gotten over the guilt trip in the next book, if not I’m never, ever going to forgive her.

Also, I didn’t like Tris' over-recklessness in this one. She keeps putting herself in danger even when she doesn’t need to. Four says it better here: “I love Tris the Divergent, who makes decisions apart from faction loyalty, who isn’t some faction archetype. But the Tris who’s trying as hard as she can to destroy herself … I can’t love her.”

Yes, Tris, I can’t like you when you keep reminding me that you’re just a character in a book. I liked you better in the first book, where you felt so real to me. Concentrate on the external conflict, instead of allowing the conflict inside you to consume you.

Somehow I think the tension between Tris and Four was overdone. She lies so much to him, and Four in turn keeps secrets from her. For much of this book, apart from the exciting action scenes, and the beautiful writing, Tris does nothing more than feel sorry for herself, or get into romantic quarrels with Four.

Despite my disappointment with the main characters, I’d say it’s a good read, and the action kept me going. The book ends in a cliffhanger, leaving me wanting more. But I can do nothing but wait for the third book, which has no title yet. I can only call it DETERGENT in the meantime.

Boy, oh boy. Veronica Roth sure knows how to whip up a sequel! You know, most books in series will never compare to that first golden book. However, Insurgent proved that theory wrong. I was pleasantly surprised to find this book just as amazing as Divergent. It was filled with the same action, thrill, adventure, and creativeness that made me want to continue this series. From the beginning I was hooked. I loved how there was so much more world building, and a glimpse into more of Amity and Can Boy, oh boy. Veronica Roth sure knows how to whip up a sequel! You know, most books in series will never compare to that first golden book. However, Insurgent proved that theory wrong. I was pleasantly surprised to find this book just as amazing as Divergent. It was filled with the same action, thrill, adventure, and creativeness that made me want to continue this series. From the beginning I was hooked. I loved how there was so much more world building, and a glimpse into more of Amity and Candor. We got to see more of the world that Roth created, and I was very intrigued. We also meet the factions leaders, and are introduced to this political struggle and all the faction's standpoints. Insurgent was just beautifully created and did it's predecessor justice.

After the events of Divergent, Beatrice and Tobias are left to scramble together to regain strength and control of their lives. Along with them are Caleb, Susan, and Marcus. They travel to Amity in hope of shelter and safety. Unfortunately, they don't see eye to eye and eventually leave after a surprise attack from the Dauntless traitors/Erudite. They then travel to Candor in hopes of allying with them, and even attempt to ally with the factionless. This book continues the struggle of the Dauntless and the Divergent (some shocking new admissions) vs the Erudite. It's full of action and twists, as new and exciting secrets are revealed. Who will come out on top?

If you haven't started Divergent yet, now is the time. Especially with the beautiful Allegiant cover just revealed, this series is a must. In Insurgent, there are some shocking twists. I won't spoil, but there is a traitor among them who really shocked me! Also, the conclusion changes the whole series. I am so wondering what's going to happen in the final installment with this new information present. I reccommend this book to those interested in an amazing, Dystopian, Young adult series. Start Divergent if you haven't and then jump to Insurgent as soon as you can. You will not regret picking these up. ...more

Después de terminar con Divergente, es casi imposible dejar a un lado esta continuación. La historia te engancha de un modo tal que, aunque no termine de gustarte por completo, quieres saber qué sucederá después porque hay demasiadas interrogantes en el aire.

Insurgente comienza de inmediato donde terminamos el libro anterior. Después del trágico final con el enfrentamiento entre facciones, Tris deberá enfrentarse a algo que ni siquiera había pensado que podría suceder cuando eligió ser parte de Después de terminar con Divergente, es casi imposible dejar a un lado esta continuación. La historia te engancha de un modo tal que, aunque no termine de gustarte por completo, quieres saber qué sucederá después porque hay demasiadas interrogantes en el aire.

Insurgente comienza de inmediato donde terminamos el libro anterior. Después del trágico final con el enfrentamiento entre facciones, Tris deberá enfrentarse a algo que ni siquiera había pensado que podría suceder cuando eligió ser parte de Osadía. Todo parece estar cayendo a su alrededor; y mientras la guerra entre facciones parece inminente, ella intenta superar la muerte de sus seres queridos y dejar la culpa atrás.

El enfrentamiento con Abnegación parece ser solo el comienzo: ninguna facción está a salvo ahora. Las personas se han vuelto más desconfiadas que antes y no dudan en expresar su repudio por aquellos que no pertenecen a su grupo cercano. Las fricciones que comenzaron entre distintas facciones también se vuelven parte de la forma de pensar de aquellos que pertenecen a la misma facción, como Tris y Cuatro. Cada uno, con su forma de pensar, cree tener toda la razón y parece que ya no se pueden poner de acuerdo para nada. ¿Será que al final lucharán juntos a pesar de sus diferencias? ¿Y qué sucederá con el sistema de facciones?

Divergente fue solo una introducción al mundo que ha creado Veronica Roth; nos presenta un sistema social que de primera vista parece funcionar pero que tiene grandes fallas. En Insurgente este sistema es puesto a prueba. Algo que no terminó de cuadrarme con la primer entrega de esta trilogía eran precisamente las facciones y las acciones llevadas al extremo de las personas que son parte de cada grupo. Dado que todo el tiempo estamos en la cabeza de Tris solo vemos lo que ella ve, pero en esta secuela, donde ahora está fuera de Osadía, finalmente podemos acercarnos más a la vida de las diferentes facciones: sus costumbres, formas de vida y de pensar. Me ha gustado mucho el as bajo la manga que tenía la autora al mostrarnos a los Abandonados de una forma más cercana. Aunque toda esta nueva información solo hace que me salten más dudas.

Uno de mis problemas con Divergente es que es un libro que, según mi punto de vista, requería más acción de la que nos mostró. Ahora se ve compensado en Insurgente, donde hay muchas escenas de acción, pero con otro problema: el ritmo. Creo que este es el mayor fallo de Roth, pues el ritmo es lo que casi hace que deje el libro a un lado: no sucede nada por mucho tiempo, luego algo enorme pasa con demasiada rapidez, luego nada de nada hasta veinte capítulos adelante, luego algo enorme, luego algo pequeño, luego nada y el gran final. Demasiado cortante. Bien te puedes saltar capítulos de monólogo interno de Tris e ir a los últimos tres capítulos.

Tris y Cuatro no son santos de mi devoción, pero me gustó su relación en Divergente porque no era parte esencial de la trama, simplemente fue algo que sucedió. Ahora esta relación sí conforma la historia, lo cual me tiene con sensaciones encontradas. Entiendo que es un libro juvenil y que a la mayoría nos gusta el romance, pero si hay tanto que explicar sobre el mundo en que viven los personajes y hay tantas cosas sucediendo a su alrededor, ¿por qué darle prioridad a un romance? La cabeza de Tris es un desastre total y la de Cuatro un misterio indescifrable.

Me parece un buen libro, una excelente continuación, pero Roth nos vuelve a dejar con miles de preguntas sobre el mundo que plantea. ¡Y luego con tremenda revelación al final! ¿Qué llevó a la sociedad a esta división en facciones? ¿Qué es lo que se esconde detrás de esas vayas? ¿Qué tan certeras son las acciones de Jeanine basadas en la información que tenía sobre las facciones? ¿Será que en Leal finalmente se resolverán todas las dudas que tenemos desde la primera entrega de esta trilogía? Hagan sus apuestas.
