Traditionally, I tend to give my rating after my review, but I'll go against conventions on this one. Divergent is a 5-Star read.

Why 5-stars?

Okay...

Firstly, the book is awesome. Why? Because when I read a book and I picture myself inside the world the author created, then I think the book awesome. The author did a good job in the world creating process. ONE STAR *

Secondly, the characters are captivating. Yeah, when I read a book and I begin to imagine myself chilling or chatting with any of the Traditionally, I tend to give my rating after my review, but I'll go against conventions on this one. Divergent is a 5-Star read.

Why 5-stars?

Okay...

Firstly, the book is awesome. Why? Because when I read a book and I picture myself inside the world the author created, then I think the book awesome. The author did a good job in the world creating process. ONE STAR *

Secondly, the characters are captivating. Yeah, when I read a book and I begin to imagine myself chilling or chatting with any of the characters, it means that I really like those characters too well, and they feel so real to me, like real people, instead of like characters in a book. I don’t know what to say yet about having a dream where I saw myself amongst the Dauntless initiates. TWO STARS **

Thirdly, when I read a book and I begin to marvel at the story concept, then I say it’s a good book. Divergent is similar to The Hunger Games. Yeah, it’s true. But I think the similarities only ends in the first-person present tense narrative, young, independent, resilient female protagonist, and genre too. Divergent is unique on its own. Instead of the people being divided into districts like in The Hunger Games, the people in the book are divided into five factions, based on five virtues that each faction possesses: Candor (honesty), Abnegation (selflessness), Dauntless (bravery), Amity (peacefulness), and Erudite (intelligence). And there's another faction called the FACTIONLESS. I just loved the concept. Far different from being put in an arena where you fight and kill each other until one person is remaining. THREE STARS ***

Overall I’d say the story is captivating, the action and pace fast. There are good action scenes in this one, and I think the author excels there. The book is too visual; I could picture the whole world inside my head, and I like the way the author describes things. The dialogue is interesting, and the author sure knows how to weave in suspense, dropping necessary information when you least expect it. FOUR STARS ****

Yeah, I loved the book. FIVE STARS *****

Four is my favorite character in this one. I like him because he’s unpredictable, strong, and he’s even more intriguing and humane than Beatrice. Sometimes I imagined him being the protagonist. I thought the author also did a good job in creating convincing villains.

I recommend this book to anybody who wants to read about strong-willed protagonists and doesn’t want to read about weak, dependent protagonists. Beatrice is one of the strongest female protagonists I’ve read, and she’s the perfect book girlfriend, even though she’s short, skinny, and not as pretty as other female protagonists I’ve read. I started this book about a week and a half ago. And I'm so mad I'm done...lol I'm still sitting here debating whether I have enough patience to wait for the Insurgent paper back to come in the mail, whether I should take a quick trip to the bookstore today or whether I should just snag the ebook and be done with it.

I can't remember that last time I gave a book a 5 star rating. But, yep this is one that will stay with me forever. It was like the Hunger Games, only WAY better writing. I will say ...more

Divergent by Veronica Roth was incredible. I think this book really sets the bar for any Dystopian novel out there. Roth takes you into an incredibly unique world that is very fun to read. I was so excited to read this book, and it totally fulfilled my expectations. I am so looking forward to continuing on to Insurgent, reads like these only come around once in a great while!

Divergent takes place in Chicago where their society is divided into 5 factions. There are Abnegation (Selfless), Dauntless (Brave), Amity (Peaceful), Erudite (Intelligent, and Candor (Honest). Each faction promotes their ideals to the members who inhabit them. Beatrice Prior is of Abnegation, but she doesn't quite fit in there with her family. She doesn't feel as selfless as the others, and thinks she belongs somewhere else. Every year, a day is set aside for all the 16 year olds to choose which faction they wish to belong to for the rest of their lives. They get help from their aptitude results which are administered in school. Beatrice gets some shocking results and has to choose to remain with her family in a place she does not belong, or make a selfish decision of becoming something that is more true to her. Read Divergent to find out Beatrice's decision, her scary secret that she must tell no one, and where these factors take her in this chaotic world.

I instantly fell in love with this book. As soon as the world came together, I knew I would enjoy every page. It was a really interesting place to read about and viewing it through Beatrice's eyes. I wish there were more backstory to how this world came to be, but I think the second one will go a bit more in depth. The main part of the story is where Beatrice ends up, and her initiation into her faction. It was thrilling to read, because the initiation was very extreme. It pushed Beatrice to her limits and there were some bad apples among the initiates that got in her way. Through initiation she meets Four, who is just perfect for her. I think their romance was so cute, especially how protective of her he was! As I'm reading the novel I'm currently on, I'm still itching to move on to Insurgent. I can't help myself! I wish I could wait a bit longer, so the gap between Insurgent and the 3rd book wont be as long, but screw it! Veronica Roth has made me a fan and I am eager to read more of her work now. I may not make any sense at all as I write this, because it is past my bed time. I started reading Divergent and I DID. NOT. STOP. until I finished. Seriously. Not even to go to the bathroom or anything.

I absolutely loved it. It was fast-paced, full of action, and kept you interested throughout the entire ride. The writing was excellent, the characters are incredible, and I am sure all the ladies are falling in love with Tobias. Oh, you young adult fiction male love interests...
