This was good, but definitely not my favorite Holmes mystery. I found myself predicting quite a few plot twists before they became apparent even to Holmes, who I of course feel is the best example of a sleuth, albeit fictional. :) Therefore, I felt like the story dragged a bit, since I was sometimes one step ahead of such a great detective. However, the concept of the story & its execution were impeccable; extremely good work on Arthur Conan Doyle's part!

I'm glad I finally got around to reading a Sherlock Holmes book. The character is just as fantastic in the book as he is in the most recent Hollywood and BBC reincarnations. The book itself edged on Hyperbole too much sometimes (Really, Holmes? This is your most intriguing case ever? You need to find better cases, friend!) but still, a great read.

A longer story which focuses more on Watson, and gives him plenty of room for his elaborations. His descriptions of the countryside of Dartmoor are quite effective, painting a bleak, melancholy and hostile view (to use his own words) of the mooi. I look forward to walk over it myself one day. The parts with Holmes in it as always entertain with his sharp mind and quick wit.
