En pleno siglo XIX, se escribe uno de los mejores ensayos frente (y no contra) la sociedad de consumo, en el que se apuesta claramente por una vida más tranquila y relajada.
Una auténtica delicia.
Una auténtica delicia.

A very accessible book about a man's thoughts on society as he spent some time living in isolation out in nature. I read it in high school and still remember it pretty clearly. Anyone who enjoys reading would probably like this book, although I wouldn't say it is something that should be read in one sitting.

So much of this book was right on and hauntingly ahead of it's time and immensely spiritual. I can't help but wonder, with how well read Thoreau was, what he would have thought of the Baha'i Writings since many of his philosophies are in tune with them and he revered the Holy Texts of all the World religions. It only got a 4 instead of a 5 because there were some really random rambling parts every once in a while which lost me. I can see why it's a classic and recommend it.

Some of my Goodreads friends find this to be an amazing, edifying read. Others cry BORING! I can't believe I have not read this. I remember reading excerpts in high school English.

Although at first preachy, it's hard to find fault with Thoreau's beautiful depictions of life at Walden pond and musings on the soul.
