It was scary, chilling, and the original vampire model, which makes it a perfect classic, in many ways. Despite the nearly 5 months it took me to read it, and despite any parts that dragged a bit (Mina and Lucy's holiday time; the early parts of Dr. Sewald's Renfield sections; Dracula on a boat, making his escape), I found this book to be awesome. The journal format of this book was quite interesting and helped develop each character. I thought it was a bit drawn out, especially since it came to a climax and resolution on the last pages of the book. Would have liked to see more of an epilogue from the other characters as well.

This moved a bit slowly for me but I did like it. I think that over the years I've been exposed to so many vampire stories that this one seemed pretty tame. It was interesting to read the book that started it all though and I'm sure at the time it must have really freaked people out. I wanted to read the classic vampire book among all the vampire hype lately and am I glad I did. Dracula is a compelling and scary story, even though anyone who pays any attention to pop culture would know the general plot. However written in journal entries from a few of the characters perspective the story unfolds and is really compelling. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
