Okay, this must be why I read almost exclusively Victorian fiction. I like books that have characters, a comprehensible plot, and that say something. This book completely lost me. It claims to be a poetic account of a moment in a woman's life, after she has lost both her parents. That much I got. But it doesn't make any sense! And the characters are so thinly drawn! I didn't care about the protagonist at all - or any of the other characters, for that matter. I spent most of the novel confused. I
