This is far and away my favorite book of the Dark Tower series, so far. I needed this substantial, mournful piece of backstory. Roland became much more real and dear to me. I have a better understanding of how he came to be the man we've seen in the first three volumes, and how his quest for the Tower was ignited. ...more
