Reading someone's favorite book can be a scary thing, even when you are not married to that person. But I've read this book, it's just been a long enough time that I really don't remember how I felt about it that time. However that was, I'm pretty sure I like it more.
Some of that is distance. Distance in time from the time it is set. Distance in place - rural Florida is way to close to south Georgia.

Argh! I love finishing a great book, but I hate that feeling of loss when I do. I know that the story can't go on forever and I really appreciate a good ending, but a part of me feels like there is something missing in my life when I finish a wonderful novel, like I had been living in two worlds and one of them has ceased to exist.

Apocalyptic book about a small Florida community that luckily escapes nuclear fallout from a Soviet first strike. Well thought out but the gender stereotypes from the 1950's are very prominent.
