Probaby the only post-apocalypse novel I've read that is more brutal than The Road. This one is often compared to Lord of the Flies and I think that's quite apt.

This is a great little book which probably bares more relevance today than it did when first published in the 50’s. The story concerns the decent of society into barbarism after a virus wipes out all grass based life on the planet (rice, wheat, barley, corn etc) leading to massive food shortages.
