Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion is a zombie story told from the zombie's point of view. At first this seems like a preposterous notion since all zombies do are shuffle around trying to eat people and groaning “Brainnssss!” But this story is told by R. who is a very high functioning zombie. He thinks, he talks and he longs for the life he used to have. R. can experience the memories of the Living by eating their 'brainnssss'. R. eats a Living person and falls into Perry's memories. A zombie falls for a human girl and protects her and returns her to the stadium where the remaining humans are holed up and trying to create a civilization. It started out very strong and I liked the different characters and how the author made the zombies appear evil but then you grow to see their perspective but the ending was a little confusing and felt tacked on, like the author didn't really know how to draw it to a good close.

Absolutely brilliant book. To read this book is to fall in love with a zombie. R is one of the best narrators I've come across in my reading -- he evoked the same feelings in me as Odd Thomas.
I deducted 1/2 star for a little author preachiness toward the end of the novel. ...more

After seeing this movie, I couldn't resist checking out the book, and I was far from disappointed. In fact, I liked the book much more than the movie. It's funny, and poignant, and even graceful in a way. There's a lot of subtext that was either played down or missed entirely in the movie. I was surprised at how much it said about society and how well it said it. Really, this is a fun read, but the wry style of writing and the undercurrents and subplots make it much, much more.

I really enjoyed he way this story was told. I normally don't care for 1st person present tense. Warm Bodies seemed to be suited to it. At points the story jumps around, but what else would you expect for a zombie?
I read this as a book of the month, and I wasn't overly excited about it. I was pleasantly surprised! :) ...more

A quick read about a zombie who's a little different and ends up changing the world. It's not as funny as the movie, but just as good.
