This has always been one of those books that I have never quite made it around to reading. I honestly wish I'd have read it a lot sooner. Back in high school we studied Animal Farm, which was probably chosen as its an easier text.
1984 simply oozes with thought provoking material. I'd find myself having to re-read a sentence just to give myself time to ponder the point that was being made. It just constantly throws you brain food, unwholesome food that ultimately makes you feel violently sick.

I'm not sure why everyone is so freaked out about this pretty ordinary tale about a door-to-door salesman and his quest for meaning in a brutal work environment. The love affair between Winston and Julia is touching, though I'm not sure why it's so important that she fetishes the vacuum attachments Winston is trying to sell her on their first meeting.

Much scarier than I remembered- of course, the first time I read this I was in 5th grade- probably didn't understand much.
