Shelves: post-apocalyptic, zombies, other-horror, science-fiction

First of all, I am trying to get back into doing reviews. I will try to go back to some of my past reads and add them as well. This is my first one in some time.

I may or may not have seen a bootleg copy of this film. I cannot confirm or deny that. If I have not, I am super excited about this movie coming to the States because the preview looks fantastic. With any good film that was modeled after a book, I generally have a desire to read it.

Ugh.

I liked this book, I really did....

It started out wonderfully, telling the story from the point of view of Melanie, a 10 year old, brilliantly written little girl. The first several chapters are awesome. I felt the promise of a wonderful book to come and it wasn't BAD but...

The slog begins. Almost immediately.

One amazing zombie apocalypse novel where the main protagonist is a ......... zombie !! Brilliantly characterised, superbly plotted, tantalisingly set-up and chillingly concluded. 4.5 stars.

I actually saw the movie on Netflix before reading the book. I enjoyed this unique take on zombies both in book and in movie format. Doesn't hurt that there is a fungal aspect - taking actual zombie-like behavior in the animal kingdom and using it to fit the human spectrum. The characters are strong and the story moves at a rapid pace. ...more
