Wow. I was expecting this book to be MUCH better! But it lacked emotion, everything moved too fast, the plot-line was sketchy and by the time I finished it, I was like "Uh, okay. What just happened?"
But even through all of that, it still just a little predictible;yet at some points, everything was just so disorginized, that I couldn't figure out what was going on. Of course, throughout the whole book, Sophie is beating herself up for being in love with Archer, and also having feelings for Cal ( Wow. I was expecting this book to be MUCH better! Of course, throughout the whole book, Sophie is beating herself up for being in love with Archer, and also having feelings for Cal (because what Young Adult read is complete without a little teen angst and a good love -triangle?) She has a bazillion choices to make, and snaps at anyone who tries to help her out. I noticed that there were times where it seemed like Rachel Hawkins wasn't even writting this; like she would write some of it, then someone else would come in and add their ideas. Wheather that was the actual case or not, it was annoying.
The whole point in writting a book with a decent plot-line, is that you have got to put yourself in your characters postion, and go along with it as if it were really happening to you. Sure, you're the author, so you'll know more into the future than who you are writting about will, but you still need to keep a (well thought out) spontaneous feel for everything.
i.e; "Hmm, should I try to safely climb down this huge rock wall, or should I just jump over the edge and see what happens?" Well, what would YOU do? I know what I would do, and it's an easy no-brainer. But in this book, though Sophie was given safe and smart choices that would have been easier and just as efective to do, she always seemed to think she needed to come up with her own, stupider, makes-less-sense-and could possible kill me- choices, yet it always worked just abosolutely fine for her (and we all know real life is RARELY, if EVER like that.)
So, out of this series, book two, Demonglass, was my clear favorite(it had also revived my faith in young -adult writers, now I feel stupid.) I guess the only reason I kept reading it, was because I HAD to know how the end was; you know that feeling. But if their was to ever be another Hex Hall novel, I don't think I would read it just because of my experiance with this last one. ...more

i did give it 5 stars, but i don feel kinda conflicted since i dont realy like the ending (she kills off a VERY good character)... but then again all authors kill off characters... but still i was on TEAM . (i aint gonna write thier name cuz its a HUGE spoiler.)

I was so expecting Mis Hawkins to suddenly put a twist in there saying that the charrie didnt actually die... but Alas, he did.

ugh im gonna be so bored now. have to luk for another book to read.

Enjoyed this book, as much as the rest of the series, but the ending was not exactly to my liking, would have preferred to know more about what Cal saw, but she did tie it up nicely.
