Again, the concept itself was intriguing...the futuristic/fantasy fairytale retelling with the bonus of a (potentially) redemptive take on an age-old villain. But this reader ultimately found the execution a bit exasperating.

It started out with great promise. Somewhere in Southern France, seemingly far removed from the Eastern Commonwealth and the events of the first book, we're introduced to Scarlet Benoit--a fiery farm girl with a hoodie fetish and a missing granny.

While I am enjoying the series, I felt like Scarlet lacked some of the key energy that Meyer had in Cinder. I never wanted to stop reading Cinder, but I had a harder time reading Scarlet...

...While I would say that this book is more romantic than Cinder, I also found it to have a bit more action. There are some battle scenes, and I think they were okay. They could have been written better. I lost interest in many of them, even though I know that fighting and rebellion is an im

Another great retelling by the talented Marissa Meyer this time a retelling of Red Riding Hood. Please note this review may contain spoilers for Cinder so if you haven't read Cinder then don't read this review.

Before finishing Scarlet I was prepared to rate it four stars because it just wasn't as good as Cinder but that was way before Scarlet's POV within the book got good and by the time I had reached the last few chapters within the book I was hooked. The need to find out what happened overpo

I am loving the feel of alternate telling of retold classics. Looking forward to the other books in the series!

Marissa Meyer never ceases to amaze. I was stupefied. Really. The way the two characters tie together was beautifully done. I was okay with there being little Cinder-Kai action: they were able to be seen as two characters separate from each other who made decisions independent of what the other was doing (although in Kai's case, not so much). (view spoiler) The characters felt developed, loose ...more

Scarlet lives on a farm with her grandmother. She works as a delivery girl back and forth from the farm to the Rieux Tavern, to deliver vegetables and fruit. But now, her grandmother has gone missing, and the police have called off the search for her. Then she finds her dad looking for something, tearing the whole house apart for it, to give to the kidnappers so he and his mother are safe; and the only thing he remembers about the kidnappers are tattoos on their elbows with LSOP and then a few n ...more

I enjoyed the book, I loved seeing Scarlet and Cinder meet one another. I still have a love/hate relationship with Scarlet and Cinder is a badass now. I can't wait to see how things will end up!

Reread Sept 2015

Overall, I liked this book a little less. Which is odd. Not sure if it was the audiobook narrator that turned me off Scarlet's character. I also had a difficult time connecting to Scarlet and Wolf's romance.

But oh, Captain Throne, how I have missed you.

Idk. Meeehhhh. I’m not a huge fan of any of the characters or romances. I don’t dislike them, I just don’t care. The story is not super my thing so far.
