Jennifer E. Smith is quickly turning into the next Sarah Dessen with her contemporary romances. I was extremely impressed with The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and now she is back with This Is What Happy Looks Like. I adored this book, Jennifer’s way of writing is amazing, and it really can’t help but remind me of Dessen. Two loveable characters, a good backstory and a wonderful romance that is feels very realistic under the circumstances.

This story starts off in a really cute Jennifer E. Smith is quickly turning into the next Sarah Dessen with her contemporary romances. I was extremely impressed with The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and now she is back with This Is What Happy Looks Like. I adored this book, Jennifer’s way of writing is amazing, and it really can’t help but remind me of Dessen. Two loveable characters, a good backstory and a wonderful romance that is feels very realistic under the circumstances.

This story starts off in a really cute way, I love how an error in an email address really helped make this story what it was. You have two people on completely different sides of the country that become entwined through a simple mistake. And what it leads to is something that you might not expect. The story isn’t really much more than a romance. You have some other things going on between families, and issues that Graham goes through but aside from that there really isn’t much else of a focus.

Ellie and Graham are so cute together. It’s great to see how they were able to come together, despite Graham’s fame status. His status does play a role in the relationship. Not in the way you think though. Ellie doesn’t care what he does, she likes him for who he is once she got the chance to know him. The ways it plays in, is just all the attention that him and Ellie being together brings. I really can’t think of anything I might have wanted to see done differently with this story or the relationship. It was well written, and well executed. You can’t really ask for much more than that.

If you loved The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, or if you are a fan of Dessen’s books I really think you will love This Is What Happy Looks Like. I can’t wait to see more from Jennifer. I know The Geography of Us comes out in 2014 and I am anxiously awaiting for it to come around. Jennifer in my opinion really is the next big thing in YA contemporary romance and I hope she will continue to write in this genre past The Geography of Us in 2014.

This is What Happy Looks Like In all actuality, I have next to nothing to say about This is What Happy Looks Like. Sure, it was super cute and sweet, but it wasn't much more than that. It was an ultimately forgettable, fluffy kind of book. Which is totally okay, because I've been in a really fluffy mood lately.
