4.5 stars. Thrilling book...lots of elements...adventure, danger, romance, competition, enemies, family, friendship, betrayal. Great to read a popular YA book that is not overrated. I admire Tris and I would be attracted to Four.

I'm not a dystopian fan, but I'm so glad I read this book for a group book of the month. Divergent is criticized for not being a true dystopian book, maybe that's why I liked it, ha, ha.

This book should've made me cry, but it didn't, so something was missing and this is

Fast-paced, heart-throbbing, heartbreaking, emotional... this book was everything I hoped for and then some.

Chicago, Illinois. The town is divided into 5 factions: Abnegation for the selfless, Dauntless for the brave, Erudite for the knowledge-cravers, Candor for the honest and Amity for the peaceful. At 16, every boy and girl is submitted to an aptitude test, and according to the result, the boy or girl must choose a faction, for he will be a part of it for the rest of his life, o

Beatrice Prior is about to turn sixteen. This is the day when she has to choose which of the five factions in society she wants to belong to for the rest of her life. Beatrice and her brother have been raised in Abnegation, the self sacrificing and selfless people in society. The other four factions are Erudite (the intellectual, who all seem kind of snobby), Amity (the peaceful and apparently the ones who grow all the food), Candor (the honest, they cannot actually lie) and Dauntless (the brave ...more

Fascinating. Apparently someone decided that the world should be divided into 5 factions of people, representing peace, courage, honesty, selflessness, and intelligence. Interesting concept if a little blurry as a concept. But the character-development was good through the book. I enjoyed watching Beatrice/Tris grow and develop from a young and protected 16-year-old to building her personality and her skills. Brother Caleb also embraced his internal self and chose his proper path. In Tris's fact ...more

Beatrice 'Tris' Porter

The beginning was a bit slow for me. It just felt like I was reading about any teenage girl, in any other time, going about mundane things in her life.

Once Beatrice made her choice and moved to this new faction things started to get better, but it really didn't pick up and pull me in until the last part of this book.

I think if I had known more about the characters backgrounds or more about the factions from the beginning, I would have felt more invested in the story from

This book was amazing. The story line is original. The characters are very complex. The action is unbelievable. I get an adrenaline rush from just reading the book. I cannot wait to read the next two books. The only thing that I did not like about the book was that sex was discussed in one section of the book. (view spoiler) ...more
