Roomies by @christinalauren follows Holland who is living in NYC and can’t quite get it all together. She works for her uncle at the Broadway theater where he is the composer of a smash show. And she has a crush. A big one. So much so that she takes the subway 10 blocks out of her way to see “Jack” playing his music in the subway daily. His music ignites something inside her that is inexplicable to anyone else. After an attack in the subway, he comes to her rescue and Holland learns his name is

Holland has a crush. A crush that she goes out of her way to see. Not just any ole crush, but a street musician. She rides the subway, even when it isn’t necessary just to hear him play. In her mind his name is Jack, and he speaks to her through his guitar. One tipsy night, Holland has enough courage to break the fourth wall and speak to Jack, learning that he is Irish, has green eyes ... and his name is Calvin.

Romance is my go to slump busting genre. If I feel a slump coming on, I drop everything and pick up a meet cute love story. And it ALWAYS works.
I recently felt an oncoming slump and Jen recommended Roomies by Christina Lauren. Shout out to her because it did NOT disappoint.
I don’t think you can go wrong with a Christina Lauren novel, but this one might be my new favorite. I loved the characters, the setting, and the plot.... which means I basically loved everything. Holland and Calvin meet ...more

This was a book that is definitely better if you go in blind. (Oops 🤷🏼♀️)
This was actually my second attempt at reading Roomies because I DNF’d the first time after feeling like the book I was reading was entirely different from what the blurb had said.
This one is a slooooooow burn, but the tension between Holland and Calvin was so good. I liked that both the hero and heroine had flaws and that made it feel a little more realistic.

This book was a combo of two amazing movies The Proposal meets PS I Love You. Ok not so much the second one, but it has a hot Irish man in it so I kept picturing Gerard Butler as Calvin. There were a few moments I snorted laughing out loud while reading this book, but I already knew I liked these author’s sense of humor. And the romance was the kind I love to read, but also felt different and new somehow. I’m glad I bought this book because I will definitely reread it at some point in the future
