This is thought-provoking and beautifully illustrated book about a boy that learns that the dark is nothing to be afraid of. Despite the basic premise, the book makes use of impactful illustrations and imaginative language to give the Dark life and character, and as you progress through the story, creates a sense of unease and suspense until you find out the dark is actually useful and not at all scary! This would be a good book for use for Reception-Year 2, with lots of opportunity to discuss the language used, the characters and the meaning of the story, as well as linking with topics on light and dark.
