What Members Thought
An interesting and poetic look at a domesticated animal returning to its wild roots. Also, not very long, so a nice "palate cleanser" between longer reads. I think those with an appreciation for dogs will get even more out of this book.

Buck is a dog, jerked from a life of comfort and easy living, sold to a messenger who makes deliveries by dog sled across the cold wilds of Alaska. Buck changes, becomes stronger, fiercer, braver, bolder.
Emotionally gut-wrenching if you love animals and hate seeing them mistreated. However, the bond between Buck and John Thornton was really special and uplifting. Certainly a book that shows the rigors and harshness of life during the Alaskan gold rush.
What’s your calling?
I read this in high school in the late 90s. It was so dull, and I just hated it. I might feel differently now, but I hated it so much that I can't even consider rereading it.
