Changing from an e-book to an audio book, from LibriVox.

A modern soap opera aint’ got nothing on Crawford. A wayward son who leaves home abruptly, and his mother dies in her grief at his departure. A bank scandal and a rich woman loses everything. A high-and-mighty woman arrives, townspeople are kept from her because they are not good enough, and it is learned that the woman wasn’t even rich enough to ever see the queen.

Because this is a series of vignettes due to originally being published as a series in a magazine, the flow comes off as neighborhood gossip and too much importance on saying the right words so as not to reveal your true circumstances. So not my style. But the ladies watch out for one another and kindness prevails, so there is a place in my heart for Cranford and its inhabitants. On the 1,001 books to read before you die list and one of the more enjoyable ones I have selected from that list.
