Let's see if I can sum this up in one sentence: Arthur Dent has a bulldozer arrive in his yard which is part of a move to destroy the earth and---boom!---the planet is destroyed, but somehow he, along with his extraterrestrial friend Ford Prefect, is saved and escapes via hitchhiking on an alien ship, and he learns, while traveling using the Infinite Improbability Drive, the meaning of the universe.

Having read very little science fiction and not being taken with what I had read, I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed The Hitchhiker’s Guide... I listened to the audio book while driving and enjoyed it, but felt like I probably missed some of the satire and social commentary that I would have picked up reading it.

Not as amazing as I thought it would be based on my friend's descriptions, but still pretty great. I love the style of the book because of its unique perspective and because of the funny and random interjections.
