Yep, I liked it. The Qhuinn and Blay moments were touching, emotional, fulfilling, and oh yeah, scorching HOT. The first sex scene was so surreal, I thought I was reading fanfic for a second. I had to pause and collect myself. It's really happening!!!

The book isn't perfect or even close to it, but it gave me resolution. The story of Qhuinn and Blay.

*It got me into m/m, for which it deserves another star.

Me…Moi…..As all my GR friends in the BDB Group know I spent the last year “gnashing” my teeth about this book…all because I just wanted it to be Qhuinn and Layla….and absolutely “hated” Blay!!!!!!!!! It's really hard for me to rate this book. Part of me want to give it only 1 star because I just couldn't get into the book. I got more from the subplots of Assail and Trez than I did for Qhuinn and Blay, and that's saying something.

Then there's the part of me that wants to give the book 5 stars. I got more feeling from the last 12 pages of the book than I did the other 579 pages. Which fucking sucks. This burn in my chest is what I was missing from the rest of the book. I think that if Ward had ...more

Lover At Last... the most anticipated book of the year. A solid 3.5 stars

Strap yourselves in. This is a very long review! I usually post praises first but for this book I'm posting the cons first since they eclipsed the main story, ruining my overall enjoyment. It pains me to state this but despite Ward's commendable efforts, this series is running on exhaust fumes. Here's why:

I know it's hard in this day and age where everything is a rehash but she is pushing it with me. Folks will disagree, and fair enough, but for this review? it stands. Ok, no small talk, I am just going to dive right into this! To start, Lover at Last was overall a good read, I have been dying for Qhuinn and Blay to finally get their happily ever after, and DAMMIT they finally got it!!! I don't know what was going on with editing, but there were alot of misses going on, and that surprised me, this isn't a new author self publishing her first book! There were some "slang" words/phrases that my ass didn't have a clue what they meant, an **POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT**
Ok, no small talk, I am just going to dive right into this! To start, Lover at Last was overall a good read, I have been dying for Qhuinn and Blay to finally get their happily ever after, and DAMMIT they finally got it!!! I don't know what was going on with editing, but there were alot of misses going on, and that surprised me, this isn't a new author self publishing her first book! There were some "slang" words/phrases that my ass didn't have a clue what they meant, and I have a sneaking suspicion that kids in high school wouldn't either!!! LOL! Anyway, I admit I felt that for 628 NookBook pages, it took until the last 10 before it freaking actually happened, and that it ended up feeling rushed (if you can believe that after we Qhuay fans have been waiting on this single event FOR YEARS to come!!) I just felt that with Ward "spreading the love" with so many other characters/plots going on, our males didn't get as much face time as I'd have liked, therefore leading to the last minute rush job at the end. But beggars cant be choosers, and in the end, the two ended up together so I guess I cant complain too much. I am glad that for all the stuff going on with Layla and the possible pregnancy loss that didn't happen thanks to Payne (eye roll), she wasn't being stuffed down our throats in an overwhelming attempt to get folks to like her interloping character. LOL! I actually didn't mind reading from her POV when she and Xcor had their run in, I thought it was a sweet emotional part of the book, where they were both maybe starting to see how the other viewed them. Or how they both might have found what they were either looking for(Layla), or never dreamed they could have(Xcor) in each other, if not for that f'ed up issue sitting between them. I actually wouldn't have minded reading more on them and how their situation will play out, but I guess that will be the NEXT book, when Layla's ass will hopefully be giving birth. **Sigh**! As I mentioned earlier there were so many different stories going on, that I admit it to the book gods, I did a great bit of skimming, I just couldn't sit thru all the damned drama with the drug selling forelesser Mr. C, or Trez being forced to marry a female he didn't want, or all the rest of the BoB's issues with trying to take over. UGH! Sorry I just wanted to read about Qhuinn and Blay and their journey to finding the love they want from each other. I didn't mind reading about Assail and Sola either, but only once they met and their attraction became obvious, but that is a story that could be a short story instead. All the rest was really just fluff to me, so I did base my rating off what I actually read, and not the snippets I didn't (wink). My Thoughts:

This book has had quite the mix of reactions to it. Maybe I'm easy to please, but I enjoyed it. There were, of course, elements that I could have done without, which is why this isn't a 5 star read for me. Still, I very much liked Qhuinn and Blay's story. I hadn't realized just how much I loved Blay as a character until I read Lover Reborn last year. I fucking love Blay. And I know there are people that haven't liked Qhuinn much as the series went on, but he's been trying to get his act together. He still had plenty of issues to work out and it takes him longer than it should to do so, but he does and I admire him for it.

It takes some serious things going down for these two to finally come together and the first time, it almost doesn't happen. But after Qhuinn begs, though he tries to, Blay just can't resist and he goes back to him. And what occurs is damn hot. I loved that scene. Until Qhuinn tried to get affectionate and Blay panicked and ran away. I understood why he did, it though. He's spent all of these years in love with Qhuinn and has seen him never stick around for seconds and Qhuinn's never even tried to sleep with Blay before, so of course he freaks when Qhuinn gets touchy feely afterward. Qhuinn doesn't like it, but he thinks he deserves it after the way he's handled things with Blay. There are a lot of misunderstandings between the two of them until the end where after Blay unloads his frustration on him and forces him to see the truth of himself. I was wondering wtf was going on considering that was all the way at the end of the book, I couldn't figure out how closure was supposed to be made here. I ended up liking the way that it was handled, though. What Blay told Qhuinn there when they were in the Iron Mask, I was so happy. Real breakthrough moment there. And then that scene in the epilogue was awesome. Until that cheesy last line of the book. She couldn't think of another way to end the book? That was just sooooo silly.

I like the other elements that were also a part of Qhuinn and Blay's story as well. That discovery that they made in that cabin? Talk about not seeing that coming. I hope nothing weird develops from that. I am sad for Saxton, but he knew it was only a matter of time. I hope he gets to be truly happy at some point. And then (view spoiler) We knew it was coming, but it was still great to see it. I love the scenes with Blay's parents, too. They are so wonderful.

Of course, there were other storylines going on in the book, but I'm not up to talking about them. I really only read this book because of Qhuinn and Blay's story that I'd been wanting for forever, so most of the other stuff doesn't matter to me. I probably won't drop the series like others are planning to, but I'm not really anticipating the books for those storylines. I do care about what track the Band of Bastards is on now, though. I don't like what they've got planned next for taking Wrath down. I don't hate these guys, but I can't root for them, either. I still don't see how Xcor and Layla can get together with the path he's on. I can't see him being granted some kind of pardon and what will Layla do considering she's carrying Qhuinn's kid, but falling for the enemy? She can't leave the mansion and take the baby with her when it's born and it's not like Xcor can come and live there. It just seems like these characters are back into a corner. I don't know how Ward can write them out of it. I'm not that invested in the outcome of it. I do like that Xcor is very sweet with Layla and she had some fierce moments in this book. Still, I'm not certain if I want to keep reading the series just to find out how Ward gets the two of them together. ...more

I love ALL of the BDB world. They're some of my all-time favorite books. Like so many others I've been waiting a long time for Quay! BDB books (leading to Vutch fanfics) are what got me into reading M/M. I could NOT wait for this one and I wasn't disappointed. There could have been more of Quays story told, on both parts.
