Gardner inspires a bond in the reader's relationship towards Henry and Isa which is just as tender and fragile as that between the two characters themselves. For a short story this beautifully and sensitively written tale takes the reader on a surprisingly profound journey to somewhere. The discovery of where that somewhere is will differ from one reader to another, because readers will come to the story from different places.
