I adored this book. I picked it up at the library based on just the title, having heard it recommended as a fantastic read by someone on Reddit. I'm glad I didn't read any reviews or the synopsis before getting it, as it was a bit like unwrapping a present.

This is 3.5 stars. It's well written and totally real. Set in 1986, Eleanor and Park become friends in HS. Eleanor is a “big" girl with bright red hair (called "Big Red") and describes herself as a barmaid. She recently returned to her home in Omaha. Every moment in Eleanor's life is terrifying and claustrophobic due to abusive alcoholic stepfather, Richie. Both her mother and Eleanor, the oldest of her siblings, live in constant fear. Was mich nur manchmal echt wütend macht ist die keuche Beziehungsdynamik, die irgendwie so typisch christlich-amerikanisch ist und ich einfach nicht nachvollziehen kann. Auch in den 90ern hat es solche 16-jährige doch nicht mehr gegeben. Muaha. Ich ...more

Good quick read. I enjoyed reading it but I don't know if I care for the ending. Plus some aspects of it needed to be tied up better. I was also hoping for more music references.
